72 Chevy 350

Will a 72 c10 chevy 350 fit/bolt in a 1989 3/4 ton chevy truck? What needs to be done to make it work?

Re: 72 Chevy 350

it will physically bolt in.......

are you planning on using the TBI from the 89? or are you going to convert to a carburetor?

Re: 72 Chevy 350

The plan is to use the TBI and swap everything else over too. Will it all work including the transmission?

The trans will bolt right up... as for using the TBI, you'll either have to buy an adaptor plate to install the throttle body on the original 1972 intake, or replace the heads and intake with the later TBI stuff. The TBI intake will not bolt on the the older style heads...

It "can" if you cut the center 2 holes on the intake on both sides..... its not right... but i had to do it when i installed a 89 tbi engine in a 82 gmc....

you also have to watch the size of your cam if your using the stock tbi ecm and prom.....

Re: 72 Chevy 350

I put a 400 in a 90 GMC I had years ago. Only used the block, everything else was off the donor TBI350. Could do as above with the intake or get an adapter to bolt the TBI to. Not sure on the EGR tho...

Re: 72 Chevy 350

egr are different but may be able to use one that matches your intake, or just put up with the check engine light being on for egr code, or have that flashed out.

You also know you need the correct flywheel or flexplate for the motor right? It must match the year range of the engine 86 and up is 1 piece RMS, 85 and older is 2 piece.

the front accessories should work with it as well, as long as you have all the lower holes in the block, 2 on each side near the oil pan, and then use the manifolds that go with the truck the 89 ones or use headers for an 89. I reccomend the ebay stainless horties, bolt right in place of manifolds but do not have the AIR so might not work if you need to pass emissions.
