Filling in trim holes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

What have you guys seen/done to fill in the trim holes along the fenders/cab/bed. Fiberglass/filler, lead, solder. welding.... Just wondering what has been done to fill these, and what all of my options are. thanks!

I've never done it, but some of the guys on here recommend holding a copper penny on the back side of the hole and welding it shut.

I had all of trim holes mig welded on my Suburban when it was in the body shop for body work and paint. They welded up each hole, ground it down smooth, and then proceeded with the paint prep. I then used an adhesive type trim that I got from Cheyenne Pickup Parts (the kind used on the newer GM trucks) where the lower trim used to be. There is nothing where the upper trim used to be, just a color break. I think it looks great.

Have to be carefull with a copper penny.American pennies are plated.It can be welded to the back.You can use other copper or brass.

Had mine welded and ground down, getting ready for paint soon; I hope.

My dad had the upper trim line holes welded in in '89...there's bits of wire sticking out from the few spots I've been able to see the back of. The other side looks just fine.
