Good way to remove lousy primer?

My 70 C10 has a bad white primer job sprayed over the original paint. The hood and tailgate aren't original. I hit one side of it with a pressure washer and some of the primer came off really easily. I would rather have the original paint than the ugly primer. Is there a way to get it off without stripping it all?

Just keep hitting it with the pressure washer.
A messy alternative that might work is a solvent scrub... very hazardous, smelly, messy fricken mess!
If I were you, I'd stick to power washer!

I would pressure wash as much off as you can, then continue removing remnants with a fairly fine sand paper, maybe start with 320 and carefully sand it down, trying to minimalize how much you cut into original paint, then wet sand increasingly fine to 500 or 600 grit, followed by rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then wax. Hard to get the primer off without cutting into the original paint some. Most likey(but hard telling) the original paint was scuffed prior to application of primer, anyway.
