New tow pig

Finally picked up a modern tow pig for dragging around the old cars and boats. '05 GMC Yukon XL 2500, 4wd with the rare Quadrasteer option. Loving it so far...

Re: New tow pig

Nice lookin' Yukon. Take plenty of $$ along if you're gonna tow very far. I've had an '02 GMC crewcab 2wd, 6.0, 3.73 since it was new. 175,000mi. now with very few mechanical problems. Been a good vehicle. I've towed open car trailers, boats, utility trailers, enclosed 24' car trailers, 18', 26' and 37' Travel trailers. Towing nothing at 70 mph or so it'll give almost 15mpg but not hardly. I towed an 18' travel trailer to Atlanta for the race in Feb. and got 7.9 mpg, at around 70mph 'cause we were in a hurry and had a lot of camping stuff. It doesn't like to stay in OD towing and if you let it shift in and out the trans. temp gauge will climb. If you manually take it out of OD it's turning 2700-3000 and suckin' gas in 1 to 1 ratio 3rd gear. It's comfortable, reliable and been paid for for a long time. I don't tow enough to warrant spending $50,000+ on a new Duramax.
My Son in Nashville has an '02 Denali with quadrasteer that's not working and can't find anybody that will fix it.

just noticed you said "tow pig" so the gas mileage won't surprise you.

Re: New tow pig

My TV. 1999 GMC ¾-ton Sub 4x4 with Vortec 454. She gets 10 mpg empty and 9.9 loaded with my car hauler, either empty or fully loaded! I also can't see spending $$ on a new TV when this one runs fine, pulls what I need, and only sees 5K miles a year.

Just swapped on the new Duratracs, 285/75r17 on the Hummer wheels back in December. The coolant under the truck was from a fresh coolant change/system bleeding.

Re: New tow pig

actually, the fuel economy has been surprising so far. I have had a bunch of the FS GM trucks and SUVs with all displacement engines. This is by far the best economy out of any 6.0 that I have had so far. 15mpg at 75+ on trip home from Ohio. Am getting 13.5 in city driving so far. But as mentioned, you don't buy something like this for the mileage.
