Re: 1 ton 52's

Small update... got all 4 brackets off and painted. Mocked up the front brackets since that'll be the most simple. But a problem arose (imagine that) the bottom of the hanger sticks put past the frame... anyone else have this problem? Or a solution?

Re: 1 ton 52's

Plan on having the front completely done today (Sunday) and if I have time, will start on the back... pretty nervous though as its all new to me... I do plan on making a cardboard template though since the bracket won't lay flat, to transfer the pattern of the bracket over to its new home... should work great!

Re: 1 ton 52's

Update, swap is bolted in!!! Had to woller one or 2 holes a hair, and redrill a couple because... well I'm retarded haha. But all good now. From the way it is right meow, will have to have about a 7-1/2" shackle... will also have to wait and see how the pinion angle is... but all 4 hangers are bolted on.

Re: 1 ton 52's

Alright fast forward and I got my springs on. Got some Q'S. THIS IS my spring, and my shackle angle... which has me concerned. Is this good, bad, or god awful ugly? I don't know either a fix, permanent or temporary. Should I wait for weight and my axles to be put on, or cab I sort it out now?

Re: 1 ton 52's

52's are soft, weight until you have most of the weight on it before you do anything. I'd bet with weight the shackle will be close to (or on) the frame. Probably need a shorter shackle but wait to see.

Re: 1 ton 52's

Mhmm. That sounds like the general consensus. I was just hoping I could try n fix it before I put everything else on... oh well!

Re: 1 ton 52's

ya dont worry about tie bar and shackle angles until you have full weight on and it's on the ground. Also, dont tighten any of the suspension hardware til you have full weight and it's on the ground. once the body is on and it's sitting as a finished rig then snug all the hardware.

Looks good!

Re: 1 ton 52's

Just eyeballin from across the country, I bet by the time all is said and done, you'll be back at the original rear eye location. My 52s have about 1/2 to 3/4" arc to them with the truck on a flat surface. They really do flatten out. Looks real good though. Its milestones like this that keep you motivated.

I was thinking the same thing. And comparing the center of the spring to the bump stop it looks like they should line up pretty close with full weight on the springs.

Re: 1 ton 52's

So if I wind up going to the original spot it'll work out alright? I'm just worried that it'll all be ****ed up and wind up hitting the frame and outta wack n yea... not good anyway.

Anyway, anyone have input on putting washers next to the bushing as spacers? I got the springs lined up/centered in the mounts (3 on each side) but I'm worried the washers will cut into the bushings and mess em up. Input?

Re: 1 ton 52's

Updates. I went to the original location for spring mounts. Honestly the shackle angle a lot better... but the bottom of the spring (shackle hangle) is pretty bad so yea gonna have to shim the axle. I'd rather do that than shorter shackles because of the spring to frame clearence, might have to do both. Will have to wait and see.

Where's the new center pin in relation to the old stock spot?

Re: 1 ton 52's

It'd definitely forward a good bit, so I'll have to have the e-z inch to get it even remotely close to center. That's a good ways off though as I'm stuck due to the weather. Not a fan of rolling around in the mud and muck haha. Once I get the cab n body off I can really get into swapping the motor new trans etc etc.

Re: 1 ton 52's

Some. I actually had to put my 8" lift springs on to get other things mounted, but on a good note my superlift 8" springs for the front are 2.5" wide" same as rear springs. PLUS moving to a new house, so it's on hold still. Once I get moved and all I plan on combining my main leaf and my 4 Spring pack to make a custom one to work and will update later...
