Re: Mishimoto Electric Fans in Your 67-72 C10?

That is really exactly the same electrical setup I have. I have a bus bar distribution with 6awg, heavy grounds, etc, high amp stuff and wiring is all sized appropriately (I am an EE, so I really put some thought into it to make sure I was covered). I see from your picture though, it looks like your alternator is probably a newer cs130 style?? Supposedly they output better at idle than the older 10si units.
Also, what fan setup are you using? Any idea much current they draw?
Thank you.

Re: Mishimoto Electric Fans in Your 67-72 C10?

.
The fans I run are those sold by ChampionCooling with their radiator for these trucks CC369. They are 14" and are supposedly rated at 12 amps each for a total of 24 but I think that is incorrect as they were drawing more than a single 10awg lead could safely handle. The Derales are a higher CFM set of fans based on my earlier research and likely draw more amps than my fans.

My alt is the CS130 style...TuffStuff is the mfgr and I believe it's a 140a. I'm not using the Champion radiator, just their fans and shroud.

If your fans are not shrouded, you might consider changing that first as I've read unshrouded fans don't work that great. Also these trucks benefit from core support to grill panels that keep fans from pulling under hood hot air through the radiator ( forces the air to be pulled from "outside" ).

Note also as mentioned earlier, any place where air can skip past the radiator/condenser should be blocked so the fans pull air through them rather than past them ( see pics ).

Re: Mishimoto Electric Fans in Your 67-72 C10?

Thank you for the info and the pictures; this does help a lot. The shroud is not too expensive, and it looks like I can use it with the 2 Spal fans I already tried without a shroud. I might give that a try and see what happens. Thanks again!

Re: Mishimoto Electric Fans in Your 67-72 C10?

UPDATE:
I ordered the shroud yesterday and luckily they are close to LA so it came this morning! I bolted my Spal fans to it (for a total of 3550cfm at 1777cfm each). Here was the tricky thing though; I didn't have enough information about the shroud and it actually doesn't fit my Griffin radiator, BUT I happened to have a 4-row Frostbite aluminum radiator (https://www.holley.com/products/cool...rs/parts/FB155) I bought a month ago thinking maybe it would help with this issue. After some reading after I bought it, I THOUGHT it would be a bad idea to install it because the Frostbite only has 11/16 tubes vs. what most people recommend at 1-1/4" tube size and fewer rows. So I never installed it before. Well, the shroud fit the Frostbite perfectly so I figured I'd give it a try. All I can say is WOW. With those fans and that radiator, I let it warm up to 205 degrees in the head, then ran the fans full speed, and it pulled the head coolant temperature down to 180 in a few minutes with an ambient of 80 degrees, and that's at less than 12VDC because my charging system can't keep up. The 10si 140a March (Tuff Stuff) alternator just doesn't cut it with 50a of fans. I ordered a Powermaster CS130 that is supposedly 155a at speed and 100a at idle. I will share that result once I get it; it's back-ordered. If that doesn't charge, I'm going for a CS144. I checked the net current loss at idle with my clamp meter, and it's hovering around 5 amps battery draw, so it is pretty close to charging, but that 10si is smokin' hot. The CS130 should fix it. Thanks for the tip on the shroud. Best 100 bucks I have spent on this thing.

2 core with fat tubes > 3 or 4 core.

So I have been told. That's why I didn't want to install it, but it's cooling like crazy with the 4 row. I had 3000cfm with a shroud covering 85% on the Griffin 2 row and it couldn't keep up. *shrug*
