Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

Here's mine earning its' keep. Just got back from a road trip/job in Tonapah Arizona. Over 2600 mile round trip. Had to replace leaking radiator, probably the original 4 row.Found a replacement at Auto Zone in Phoenix. Also repaired one tire with nail in it and a leaking power steering hose. Otherwise no problems. Averaged 11.5 mpg towing 6000 lbs. Has a 5.3/ 4L60e with 4.56 gears.
Lots of nice heavy trucks here.

Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

Here is my 69 C20. Kinda funny that its a 69 C10 doing the hauling. Hopefully before long it will be the C20 doing all the work.

Here are a few parts I scored for the C20....

Both trucks are 250 6cyl powered. The C10 has a 3 spd converted from column to floor shift. The C20 has a granny 4.

The plan is to put in a B.B. with the granny 4. The later model rear came from a 79 and I believe it to be around 340ish ratio. Im thinking like 342 or something like that. My idea is that if I tie on to something if I can't move it with the C20 then I probably don't need it.

Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

My truck looked pretty good before I started. My project involves replacing the 305 with a new 383 stroker. I am also installing a front disc conversion while keeping the 8-lug. I am also installing a new aluminum radiator and Vintage Air system. I am replacing a cut up dash with an uncut factory air dash.

Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

Ok I know this is an old thread but.... this entire site is beyond addicting, and finding old threads is like a treasure hunt.
I own a 1967 GMC C3500 133" wheelbase 9' stepside with tool boxes installed in place of fenders. ( done when new).
Its got a 305E V6, 4Spd. HO72 with 5.14's
Power brakes, factory carpeting, padded door panels, - (Originally had a buddy bucket seat) , Roof lights, West Coast mirrors.
I bought it with intentions of doing some mods and making it "My own" but
With a documented history and original paint and 67k miles, Ive unexpectedly fallen in love with the truck as-is.
It's often said that much of the world we live in was built out of the back of pick up trucks. Take a look.

Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

My C30 given to my by my Dad last week. Had been in his garage for 25 years. Truck was originally a six cylinder box truck. When he purchased it the engine had been changed to a 400 small block, Has 4 speed in the floor. Frame was cut in half and shortened to fit a truck bed on it. It looks very professionally done. We took the gas tank out and cleaned it yesterday. I pull all the plugs out and out a little marvel mystery oil in each cylinder. Then turned the motor over by hand. Let it set all day and then yesterday afternoon we put a battery in it and it fired right up. I have a few more things to do and it will be ready for the road.

Re: BIG BOYS -- Let's See Some 3/4 Ton & 1 ton Projects

I've done some improvements since this pic. Some cosmetic and comfortable, more for operation. It even drains through the windshield and roof, down and through the floor board. Just a runner, nothing big, but I like it.

Would have liked to see this new. It had to have been "Super" off the line with the light blue bottom & dark blue top (558 code). Someone added the white.

New to this. Here is mine that I started this summer, it was my Dad's. 69 Longhorn. A lot of work to do here. Down to the frame now and about ready for sandblasting, and engine getting overhauled.
