72 Tilt column hazard light wiring

I have a 72 tilt column in my 65 Suburban, and I want to wire in the hazard lights if possible. I have a stock type dash harness and the wiring under the dash for the column has been spliced with butt connectors. Can I do this myself or should I have an auto electrician do the wiring? What other flashers or parts will I need to make the hazards work?
Thanks

Re: 72 Tilt column hazard light wiring

That should be fairly easy to hook up with just some wire, a hazard flasher, and some connectors.

The 72 turn signal / hazard flasher switch assembly should have a brown wire that serves as the input for the hazard flashers. Locate that wire and connect it to one terminal of the hazard flasher. Then wire the other terminal of the flasher to a fused +12V source.

The Signal-Stat 105 hazard flasher setup (that was a factory option in these trucks) plugged into the very bottom fuse in the fusebox. So you could use that as the power source for your flasher too. But if your fusebox just has an empty slot there (with no fuse clip) you could use an inline fuse holder to protect the circuit.

All of the other wiring is shared in common with the turn signals and it sounds like those are already hooked up.

This must be the hazard light wire? It's the only one not hooked up. As far as a flasher, is there a specific flasher for hazard lights that is more heavy duty? If I run an inline fuse for protection, does it go between the fuse box and flasher or between the horseshoe coupler and the flasher?

Yes, that looks like the one.

Yes, the flashers used for the hazard lights are heavier duty than a regular turn signal flasher since they are designed to flash all 4 bulbs instead of just 2 at a time. A regular turn signal flasher will work in a pinch, but usually ends up making the lights flash faster than normal.

You'll want to locate the inline fuse as close to the power source as possible. So you'd want it between the fuse box and flasher.
