White smoke coming out of exhaust when i give it gas

69 C10 with 350 crate. 7000 miles on engine. Edelbrock E Street heads. Edelbrock performer carb.
Changed oil yesterday and today while driving I noticed white smoke coming out of exhaust when I give it gas. Lots of smoke. Oil very clear and clean. Radiator water looks OK. Good oil pressure and engine temp looks fine.
About a month a go I replaced intake manifold gasket to fix oil leak.

What are your ideas on what is causing smoke or how to diagnose.

Thanks

then I would start with the intake gasket, might be seeping a bit. did you pull the plugs and see if they are a greenish tint(antifreeze) ? any excessive moisture or condensation under your valve covers or in the oil fill hole?

Re: White smoke coming out of exhaust when i give it gas

I had the same thing. don't run the engine until you get it fixed.
Buddy installed intake and it leaked water into oil.
oil level was way up. drained and you could see it in a glass jar.
i got new gaskets and followed the edelbrock instructions for the performer intake step by step.
problem solved.
I read not to use silicon on the head size, not sure if that it.
as you prob know anitfreeze will trash the engine bearings.
get it changed before running it again.

How was it before the oil change? White smoke?

If the truck has an automatic trans pull the rubber hose off the modulator and see if its wet with atf. They can leak and the engine suck atf up to the intake and into the engine.

I don't think so. No hoses running from trans to engine

More than 50% of your exhaust is water vapor. Does it still smoke after it's warmed up?

Plugs look oily. One kinda black. The other chocolate but oily. Smoked at first when I started it but seemed to go away. Although this was all at idle and reving engine. Not under a load. Will try that tomorrow. Oil is clear and old oil has no evidence of water.

In my experience, white smoke usually leads back to water. I would probably do a compression test while the plugs are out, and see if any cylinders are low

I'm sure you're not near as cold as the rest of us, but when it gets below freezing, all of my old vehicles have heavy white "smoke" (actually steam).

By chance, did you change the intake gaskets, then not drive it at all after that? And this would the oil change that you are supposed to do after an intake gasket change?

If so, then coolant more than likely got in your intake ports when you pulled the intake off and mixed with the oil from the oil leak.

Just a thought.

Re: White smoke coming out of exhaust when i give it gas

Figured it out albeit a little embarrassing. I had a little difficulty setting the timing after replacing the intake and had ended up with only a 4 degree advance in order to get to run reasonably well. Still, just didn't feel like it was running right. Did a little reading last night on the forum and it prompted to see if advancing the timing would solve the problem. Well it was quite to the contrary. Some in early last year, in the process of trying to determine the max advance of the distributor, I had made a timing mark with white paint at 32 degrees advance. Well dumba** me had been using the 32 degree timing mark in stead for the factory mark( which I had also marked white) on the crank pulley. Used the correct mark set it at 12 degrees and runs like a top and no smoke.
I hope this post will someday help someone diagnosing the cause of smoke. Too much advance can make it smoke.

I don't agree, but I am glad its running good now. keep up posted on the long term if you can. And run a bottle of lucas stabilizer in your motor at next oil change just for extra protection.
