window felt replacement

Guys, I am wrapping up my punch list, thanks to all of you. My latest is I replaced the window sweep/rubber and u channel felt that goes in the chrome piece on the vent window. Problem is every time I roll the window down it pulls the felt out of the channel and its really tight.

Will that get better over time or should I put an adhesive back there? it seems like the first OEM one had it .. it was a bear to get out.

If so what kind of adhesive? I have some silicone adhesive around someplace

Thanks as always!

Re: window felt replacement

I used the 3M weather strip adhesive for the vent window channel (on the roll-up window side). It comes in black and yellow...I like the black. Watch this quick video on the proper way to do it...makes a big difference...

I can't say how tight it should or should not be...I used Precision Brand from GMC Pauls and was vary happy with it. It was just right.

Thx for the tip on the adhesive.

I got them from 1a auto pretty good quality and over time. I'm thinking the felt will compact some , there may be some old I couldn't get out in a spot.

Re: window felt replacement

Figured it out. The felt was too thick and the bottom of the window mouth was digging into it. So I pulled it out and cut it a little bigger than 1/2 so that I'm about 3 in below the door seal. this allows it to hold the glass in place at the top and the bottom and still roll up and down freely. Seem to work, glued it in I will update this if it didn't.
