Needing buying advice

New to this side of the forum in the square body style. Got a guy that I've done a lot of business with that has a real straight 75 1/2ton longbed with a dump bed. Everything works, air conditioning and whatnot.no rust on it, rebuilt transmission. He's asking 4,000 for it..is that too much or aboutbright? Debating on a partial trade for it or just buying it outright. But here are a few pics. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Needing buying advice

If no rust-especially floors and around windshield and rear window, price sounds about right. Check prices on-line for comps. Parts are plentiful, new and used.

Re: Needing buying advice

Prices vary by region, but that does seem pretty fair since it is so clean.

In my part of the world, a pre '81 truck that clean is rare. The only ones left are either ate up with rust, or someone's garage pet. That is a great deal, if you shop around my area.

That truck is cool. If not rusted out-go for it! Good price anywhere.....

Re: Needing buying advice

It looks really straight and clean but we don't know the mileage. If the transmission has been rebuilt then it may (may not) have been used to haul heavy loads, but the dump bed would indicate that it has been used to do fairly heavy work. It seems that a dump bed would be more at home on a 3/4 ton depending on the use. If mileage is relatively low and chassis and interior are decent then I'm with the guys above. If those are beat and but the body is straight then I'm closer to the 3k level. Whatever the case, nobody would laugh at you for paying up to 4k. The dump bed happens to be as much of a liability as an asset to me. Although if you could tilt it back to clean the chassis and service the gas tanks that'd be cool, ha. Good luck.
