New door and a rusty suprise!

A couple months ago I bought a new door. Came through Fitrite, one of the suppliers to several vendors. I stored it in a garden shed until I needed it. It was out of the rain/weather for the whole time. I figured it's OK, it's coated.

Today I cut 2" holes between the hinges to run a bellows for all the wiring (power windows, mirrors, door solnoids, speakers). With a flashlight, I took a look inside the front edge of the door where there's an internal support welded.

Much to my suprise, this part of this piece, and a lot of the bottom inside was RUSTY. It was not EPDM<?> [black]coated, just bare metal. What the......????

I guess I'll be treating this area with some kind of rust converter and primer real soon now.

Ya'll might want to check that area before you pop that new door on.
