Cab removal on 2002

Has anyone here attempted to remove the cab on an NBS truck?I picked up an '02 reg cab longbed truck real cheap, but it needs some rust repairs.I have already pulled the bed...very easy.I have a full set of GM service manuals and a GM body book, but there is no cab removal procedure anywhere.Has anyone done a frame off resto on one of these trucks?

Hi, I haven't had any experience yet but i posted a similar question on January 21 titled "rusty frame 2002 Silverado" I am planning to purchase a new frame from Chevy and paint it along with other parts that rust before assembly. Have not been able to find any assembly manuals. I purchased the 3 volume set of Faxon manuals for my truck and while on the phone with Faxon they told me that car manufacturers will not allow assembly manuals beyond their assembly plants. Then after a model year is completed they recall the assembly manuals. I was told by friends to take lots of photos and i will create a log of every step i take and use zip lock bags for all small parts. If you find another source of information please let me know and i will do the same for you. Thanks, Tom

Thank You very much Tom.I plan to pull mine next month after I get the crane project done.Check out a product called Z.R.C. to coat the frame with.It is a 95% zinc self-healing coating you can buy direct.It has tested to be equal to hot-dip galvanizing!A marine guy here swears by it for boat hulls,bridges,ect. I am going to use it for sure!Thanks again!

One thing you should be careful of if you have the radio controls on the steering wheel: that is all connected by what I am told is a ribbon cable that winds and unwinds. It is crucial that the wheel not be turned in relation to the steering box when it is put back together or it will trash the cable when you make a full lock turn. So when you get ready to disconnect the steering shaft get the wheels pointed straight, then disconnect the shaft and tie it in place. Then when you get ready to put it back together just make sure the wheels are pointed straight ahead again and you should be fine.

Hi Richard, I have the plain Jane cab so the only thing on the steering wheel is the horn and air bag. Great tip though. That could be disasterous if i went into it blindly and wound up the ribbon wire. Thanks, Tom

I'm glad I checked, apparently the air bag is hooked to it too. Be safe, tie down the wheel!

Hi,
You gave me some good advise about my 2002 rusty Silverado frame restoration. Have you finished your cab removal yet? I haven't gotten very far with mine yet except i'm clearing an area where i can work on it and gathering new parts. I have been very busy with all kinds of other projects...I plan to do this in July and will post pics.

A 06 Sierra is basically the same as a 02, so this thread may help or the OP should be able to help since he just got through doing it.
