how much tire ?

My 06 has the 4.3 V6 / auto trans with 3:23 gears and 245/70/17 tires . I am thinking about a mild lift but I am not sure how much I can Increase tire size without killing the power curve and hurt accerelation and gas milage . Those 3:23's are already pretty high and I'm not going to change gear ratios . Also on these newer trucks do you have to reprogram the computer to match oversize tires ? . Thanks.

.edit .. this truck is for light duty so I'm not worried about losing hauling abulity .
