Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Yeah I'll post some later. I just bought it. It's completely stock, has a factory camper on it, running boards, stock height. I got a good deal on it, I think. It's an 87, tbi, 89000 original miles, two owners, power everything, cruise, everything works even the ac, no rust, no dents, no cracks in dash. Paid 3450

I started on the fenders today. Started on the worst one first. It had a squirrels nest built half way up the rear of the fender.

Patch panel in and first coat of filler on.
Poor dakota had to give up some metal for the patch panel.

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Epoxy primer on, waiting on it to flash to spray some high build. hopefully my other fender will be in next week.
The bed will be ready for long board with 180 next week then reprime for final sand.
Hopefully both fenders will be primed by Friday. Making some progress.

I still need to finish welding it. I need to take a good welder home from work, my home depot Lincoln 180 ain't welding worth a crap. I still need to mount the bed to see how much of the one ton frame needs to be cut off of the rear.

I shot the firewall today, so i can start getting the engine installed.
What do yall think of the color? Sunset pearlescant orange, same color thats on my race car. I am going to two tone it with sandstone.

Bed on and all the gaps look good, tires are centered in the openings.

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Couple of shots of the door gaps. First one is the drivers front where i welded some filler in to close up the gap, second one is the passengers side it needs some work also.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

Engine and trans sitting in place. I still need to pull it back out to modifiy the passenger side mout to clear the a/c compressor bracket. then it's in for good.
I made alot of progress this weekend, it's gonna give me a big head start on getting alot more done during my vaction after turkey day.
I would like to have it running in the next two weeks.

Before you modify the frame, check on your a/c options to see what's compatible w/the OE compressor set-up. many have to switch to aftermarket compressors to work properly from the research I did when investigating the costs surrounding a 6.0/4l80e swap.

A good option for an aftermarket a/c set-up w/a Sanden compressor that works w/the remaining OE accessory set-up w/o having to cut the frame is this one.....

Re: crew cab short bed build " clifford"

I'm not going to cut the frame, just add a plate to the back of the stand and slide the mount back and redrill the holes on the stand and on the adapter. Then i will get some fittings for the compressor from docs blocks.
Thanks for the info though.
PM sent.
