Corporate 14 bolt FF ?

Is there a way to identify what the gear ratio is without removing the cover or turning the wheel and counting wheel and driveshaft turns (no driveshafts)? This is a rolling frame. Any codes on the axle tubes or center section? Local yard has this and said $100 for the rear or $300 for every thing (rear end, leaf springs, front end, leaf springs steering linkage, steering box and pump and all brackets mounted to the frame). He just wants the stripped frame back.(frame is bent). This is a 3/4 ton regular cab long box, not sure if a 73-80 or 81-87. Will take a look at it again Monday to see what the front frame horns look like and will take a camera.

Thanks,
Eric

If untouched the front diff cover should have a tag if its a Dana 44. Otherwise just pop the cover and see. Might have a Detroit locker!.

Re: Corporate 14 bolt FF ?

There may be a tag on the front, but I would pull the covers to see how they look inside before buying. Just to make sure the bearings aren't trashed inside and the oil isn't full of metal chunks. All it takes is a drain pan and a couple wrenches to pop off the covers.

300 bones for axles, springs, steering, etc you can't really go wrong.

Re: Corporate 14 bolt FF ?

The front axle itself will give you a clue as to it's year. If it's a Dana 44, that puts it before '78, after that would be a 10 bolt corp. axle.
As far as internal parts, it could be anything. If there is anything in there other than an open carrier or a Gov-lock, it's aftermarket. After all of these years, it could be anything though.

Pulled the rear cover, didn't pull the front as it started raining. Front had a tag that said 45 11 4.09. So it looks like the it has 4.10 gears. The frame is a 73-80. Rear looks real clean inside. What front axle is this 10 bolt? Have pictures below.

Thanks,
Eric

I wasn't sure about how to read the gear ratio on this because the first number is a 10 but then it's stamped 41 11 after. So this makes the rear gears 3.73? According to the tag on the front differential cover the front is 4.09. It started to rain so I didn't pull the front cover to check the gears and we've been getting rain since then. One of them must of been change at one time maybe. I did give them some money down to hold it for me.

Thanks,
Eric
