Definitely slots, I like having the steelies/hubcaps set aside for show day but to me the slots look much better. Never did understand that plain factory look, must be a old guy thing. Lol I guess I'm old to some but young at heart!

Run them both. Run the slots until you want a change. Then throw on the steelies with caps for a change of pace. I used to do this when I had 16.5 slots and steelies. I had tires on both sets so swapping out was easy.

Dont really want to buy sets of tires for both rims but maybe....Changing the oil today and noticed the original owner must have swapped the front drums as there are disc brakes up there...nice surprise.

That is a nice surprise! Good upgrade, that just makes it better!

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)

Ok...got new tires yesterday. Goodyear wrangler authority 31x10.5x15 for $74 each at walmart! I guess theyre not carrying them any more so sale price. I had them mounted on the slots for now. I do have a question. On the Hickey sold rims...who makes them? Are they actually Ansens? I have 2 that are thicker than the other two where the center of the rim slide over the hub...anybody know why that would be? Anyways , heres of a picture with Don and his new shoes.

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)

Brian - Looks great with the new rubber on the slots.

You are correct that the rims were not made by Hickey. They are most likely Ansens of that era. Hickey was not about reinventing the wheel, pun intended.

I am guessing that the two rims on the rear axle have the thicker mounting surface. This was most likely done to "correct" the difference in track width between the stock GM 12 Bolt rear and Dana 44 front axles. If you notice, all Blazers with stock axles have a slightly wider front track width. I understood GM did this to improve turning radius, but it looks kind of strange. By widening the rear track width with a thicker rim mounting surface, the track widths can be made the same, and much more pleasing to the eye. Again, I am just guessing that this is the situation on your Blazer.

Re: 1970 gmc jimmy (Don)

Thanks...I like the look too. I do have hubcaps for the steelies but the rims need painting so I took the easy way out and put them on these. Need to polish them.I put the thicker ones up front so that they had more to slide(with the locking hub) over otherwise I thought in the rear it was too little meat on the hub. Anybody have pictures of what hubcaps were run on the rear or were they left open. I have an original hickey catalog but its stuck together and need to steam the pages.
