What's the dumbest thing yall done lately? Lessons Learned?

I could write a book......

But one of the best/worst was a twisted fuel filter.

Engine would pull hard through 1st and 2nd but run out of steam once up in the RPMs.

Replaced a bunch of things.... But ultimately found a $2 filter inside the glass housing was twisted too tight. Ran great at cruising speeds. But not at WOT.

Live and Learn.

Let's hear them....

How much time do you have. I've got a laundry list, or at least my wife does. I guess the dumbest thing I've done lately is follow a woman around a grocery store thinking it was my wife.

It wasn't.

I'm just lucky my wife was there and they did look like each other.

IDIOT!

Tried to catch the ball bearings being hammered out of a vice. I thought it maybe a bad idea about a 1/2 second before they flew out smashing my index finger. What was I thinking? My wife could tell you a ton! She tried to make me wear a helmet mowing the yard! Lol

Your Wife has got a list a country mile long, might want to let her answer that question.

Oh yeah, I forgot the "laugh at me" angle.

No matter how successful I have been in business, when I walk through that door at night, I become a blithering idiot, incapable of making a decision as simple as choosing a pair of socks, or knowing what I should eat.

Boog, I had a good day yesterday.

I finally got the suspension on my 55 dialed in. I drove to Quitman, then over to Morrilton then Russellville and back up HWY 7. The deer and a black bear kinda slowed me down after the rain later in the day. I didn't need one for a hood ornament.

I drove way too fast, but when your 55 drives like a go cart, you are required to. Especially without my assistant driver.

Re: What's the dumbest thing yall done lately? Lessons Learned?

Sounds like you had a good day Larry. Well it was a shake down run which required you to put it to the tests right?
Yeah it'd be a real shame to hit a deer or bear in it.
I had a bear run in between my truck and a uhaul trailer I was pulling late one night out in the middle of nowhere. He almost made it but ran into the right tire of the trailer. The way that loaded trailer bounced and wig-wagged back n forth it felt like we'd dropped off a culvert or something. Didn't see it coming in the darkness until he was beside us.

I hit a deer right in front of the high school in my Longhorn the other day. No damage to the truck.

I'm leaving for Florida in the 55 Saturday so I needed the shakedown run. The alternator fried in Russellville. A kid from O'reilly brught me one and helped me change it one his lunch break.

Re: What's the dumbest thing yall done lately? Lessons Learned?

A few weeks ago I miscalculated my fuel mileage, by about 200 feet. I was thinking I had 3-4 gallons left, but after a slight misfire and no power I pulled off to look under hood, letting it run. Probably wasted the fuel I needed to make it into the station while looking under the truck.

Is your fuel gauge like mine, it doesn't really start to move until half empty, then drops like a stone.

Hey bud. Better check those wipers. You will no doubt need them on that trip.

Yeah, I've got the "show" (original style) wipers on it now. They didn't work too good a shower north of Russellville. I was just sitting here thinking I should put the road wipers on.

Well, didn't help that it didn't work at all then either. But now that I've "fixed it", with gas flowing out the neck is only 7/8th, and I went through a tank really fast this week and I refilled just over half a tank worth this morning with the gauge at an 1/8.
So, it's close at least.

Its funny how that first 1/2 tank is way bigger than the 2nd 1/2 tank...

Re: What's the dumbest thing yall done lately? Lessons Learned?

Dropped my phone into the bay whilst out on a pier.

Problem was, I didn't realize it for 10-15 minutes. It's an older contractor type phone, so if I'd found it right off the bat it probably woulda been OK. But it's water proofedness isn't up to par anymore. Salt water ain't easy on electrical doohickies.

No water is. I got into a Jacuzzi with my phone in my pocket and didn't realize it until I got out. Bye bye phone.
