Re: Another frikken Volvo ?

actually sounds pretty civilized , could have the exhausttip at the back like the original (prolly could use a volvo part for that actually ) unless you have an aftermarket tank in there

Ross Converse suggested using a Mustang cam to gain some top end and kill a bit of torque. Its more of a driver than a Hot Rod so I decided to keep the Explorer cam in it. It pulls good but smooth. Problem is our 2009 Toyota Avalon (14.9 1/4 mile) would likely clean its clock. Then again I have yet to burry the throttle on it. Waiting for all the bugs to get worked out.
I am kicking myself just a little on not doing the cam swap. It would sound a bit meaner and go better, ah well, I am in no hurry.
My tuner is now out of business so a cam swap could mean paying someone for a computer tune. Yet to find an exhaust tip, it will get brought out past the bumper. Thanks WYK.

Well I did bury the pedal last night, and.....it wasn't good. Felt like a progressive weight was being added. Didn't rev and once the midrange was over it didn't pull. Revs fine when in Park. I am going to check codes, I suspect some transmission work in my future.

Re: Another frikken Volvo ?

A number of years ago, I remember reading something in Hot Rod magazine just when the Pro-street craze began to take off. They were saying that there was this entirely new (at that time) population of cars who had all the right stuff, i.e. huge engines, gigantic power, big slicks, correct suspension set ups and so forth. None of the cars made the expected numbers. In other words, none of them could rocket through the quarter at any where close to what the power to weight ratios said they should.

What did this mean?

It was simple. It simply meant that every last one of the cars that that magazine was featuring needed to be debugged and dialed in. I myself built a Cobra kit car along about that time. I used a 460 Ford engine with a C6 and a B&M shift kit fed into a Ford 9" with a Detroit Locker. The car weighed about the same as my other car - a Karmann Ghia. You would have thought that it would have had acceleration that would peel your eyelids permanently open and it did.... eventually. It certainly didn't at first. In fact, it was a dog gone pooch right at first barely outracing my Karmann Ghia.

Hang in there. You've just closed in on the final chapter of a very huge project - one so big that it just aint gonna be perfect right at first. You just need to be patient, debug it and dial it in. Good times are coming.

Re: Another frikken Volvo ?

I needed a test drive and the Lemay museum had there "cruise in" my wife works for AAA who is a sponsor of the museum so I told her I could bring her car, since I wanted to drive it anyway. https://www.americascarmuseum.org/ev...11/2016-08-11/

Pretty good turn out for a Thursday. My boy followed me with his 66 Volvo.

The Bertone was working really good. I hope it stays that way. Only thing that changed was charging the battery.

Re: Another frikken Volvo ?

Been a few years of very little progress/upgrades. I chose a local high end hot rod shop to complete some finishing touches. While they were warming it up looking into a running condition (surge) that had recently developed it caught fire. Pics to come. I'm bummed. My wife has already made it clear that unless the buy back is really expensive we will fix it. Update soon.

Re: Another frikken Volvo ?

Low compression. So I also have that to deal with.

Oh man, that's a rough update. A huge impact to something that you'd worked on for so long. I hope for the best for you guys as you negotiate the insurance payout and make decisions.

Thanks! Thinking about making it my daily driver, problem is the length of time (and money) required to do that. Complete rewire (peace of mind) engine repair and upgrade. Could take me forever. Best plan is to off it. Good luck selling a crispy Volvo huh. More Ugh!
