Very few of us other than you know that Blissfield is in Michigan. You might consider adding "MI" to your location.
I think my biggest issue will be that I won’t find one around here that’s not rusted all to hell unless it’s someone’s abandoned project and they fixed it all already. Out of state buys will have it’s own issues. Like transportation costs and possibly buying site unseen or travel time.

Lol even ppl who live in SE Michigan don’t know that Blissfield is in SE Michigan.
I’ll add that to my profile.

Thank you to everyone who has responded. I have already learned more in a couple days than I have poking around the net for a year.

you might want to consider a road trip south if you can find one, or ask a member of this forum to look at it and will give you an overview of what it looks like. If you can, you might be lucky enough to find a truck with a solid body.

I did the road trip thing, to Shamrock Texas, on a long Labor Day weekend 30 years ago. It was fun, and I scored a pair of '55 Chevy convertible quarters. My street rodder buddy with me found a '38 sedan in Wellington Texas! We had a blast!

You are right. Not sure I can get out of taking a road trip.

I can tell you that like mentioned earlier need to spend as much as possible on a starter truck. Otherwise all the hidden costs are going to eat you up.

I can see the truth in that. The more I look and see what’s out there the more I see what I would really like is much harder to find. Luckily I’m honed in on the body style more than anything else. I don’t want a show pice or a piece of crap. Somewhere in the middle will work. Unfortunately there are way more show pieces or pieces of crap for sale than the ones in the middle of the road.
I enjoy the hunt and I’m in no hurry

Thank you to all those that replied. I appreciate all the information

+1 to this comment. I spent $3500 for a desert truck from Oklahoma, $1000 to get it to me in PA. Spent $10,000 replacing all sorts of parts and problems as frugally as possible. I'm not even counting the hours I put in or the tools I bought. If I took that $15-20k I will eventually have in this, man I could have bought a nice, finished, truck.

Thankfully for me, I learned a ton of auto maintenance that now spills to my other vehicles where I can do repairs without having to pay the auto mechanic.

My current job I got because of what I learned in the process of building my truck. So it was a win for me, but certainly not the "Easy road"

you did shoot your feet up a bit on that one, changing things around a few times. but it all worked out nicely enough! and you built it yourself, chances are you wouldnt appreciate it as much if you just bought it done.

Re: New guy looking for a project

If you get a chance to come down to AZ, you can find a few low rust options for $3500. Attached one for you to see. May be worth the savings to trailer back.

True, the engine choice thing was the biggest kicker I think. The truck always had the same plan, I just didn't know what I was looking at when getting the S10 long bed donor engine or the SBC350 donor replacement. Ahh well...drove it all summer now and forgot all about how much money it costs
