Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

From what I have seen on other threads it is not worth the trouble. Do a smart search for frame swap and you should be able to find other threads on the subject.

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

This is probably not what you have in mind, but does have some good fab work to make the 2 blend into a decent driver....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=492640

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

I think a lot of people use S10 frames but dude... anything can be done with time and creativity so do it! It could be a sick truck.

Definitely read through that Caprice build, he did a great job and will steer you in the right direction. Good Luck

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

A guy I know built a 63 short bed using the frame and from a 84 or 85 Caprice/Impala. It turned out good and was a lot of fun to drive. Wish I had some pictures of it, he sold it several years ago. Good Luck on yours.

little defensive. you asked!. No one here is trying to stop you from doing what you want. if you succeed all the more power to you, but is it not good to see the pitfalls also of one of these types of swaps. then when you are done and reflect back and ask yourself what did I really gain by doing the swap this way instead of just installing the components in the original chassis other than more work. then it may not be legal in your area

Here is someone who has done it on a 94. I don't know how to put a link. Post #136 in the "post pics of static drop " in picture thread index. Maybe pm him on how he went about it, what to look out for and what he would do different. I say go for it. Good luck

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

If it gets abandoned, it'll happen quietly.
.
I see the Original Poster is getting irritated with the comments. But the experienced guys on here have never steered me wrong.
.
The question I want to ask every time a new thread like this pops up is; What are you trying to achieve?
If it's the newer parts, newer engine, newer drivetrain, then I still don't see the point of using the newer frame.
Just put the newer parts in, on, under the correct frame.
.
So, going back to this goal / attempt.
I've seen thread after thread where someone upgrades their truck using their correct frame with newer model parts. Disc brakes, power steering, LS engines, etc. All success stories in these forums.
But this newer frame question that gets asked here about once a month - I don't remember seeing one person follow through. They just kinda disappear.

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

Guys I'm not getting irritated. My goal is to use everything from the 90s pickup,my 66 is a c20 I have 65 c10 running gear I picked up rear end front end that needs to be gone through and changed to disc.engine is tired and Exedra, the 90s pickup has low miles on her and to me it just makes a little common sense to just do a few little mods on some body mounts, I'm truly excited that nobody has done it and I'll post up some pictures as I go along maybe lol everyone have a great weekend

I would like to see it done as well! We had 3 of that generation over the years were good and fairly dependable.

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

Nice starter. Interior looks really clean.
That backup light switch thingy at the bottom of your shifter is somewhat rare.

There is going to be a heck of a lot more to do than just some little body mount mods.

Re: 66 to 90 frame swap

A local guy put a 66 SWB on a 84 SWB frame. That pretty much bolts on with a small amount of fab. The 88-99 frame is much different. Not that it can't be done but at some point it becomes way more trouble than its worth...
