a little fuel line help...
I am having to replace the hard line from fuel pump to carb, due to new brackets...
I took off the fuel line, took it to a couple autoparts places today, trying to find the fittings I need. My best guess is this is 3/8 fuel line, flared. I took the line along with the original fittings, the 3/8 fittings they had would not work correctly. Took the shiny chrome 90 3/8npt to nipple out of package and checked it against a brass nut we used to gauge the old fitting on my old fuel line. No worky. My truck is an 86/305/4bbl stock What fittings do I need, cause I am getting too much conflicting info from the monkeys at the auto parts places around town. I need a male to nipple 90 for fuel pump (to clear brackets) and just a straight male to nipple for carb. We are talking about 3/8? Shopping for fittings never gave me any problems before today, too many people gave me so many different stories, can someone just clear this up for me? sorry for the long winded rant. Just an fyi, I am replacing the stock hard line with some rubber hose...

Re: a little fuel line help...
it might be 1/4NPT
by the way running a rubber fuel line is an excellent way to burn your truck to the ground

Re: a little fuel line help...
checked again at another store, it is 3/8.
As for burning the truck to the ground, I did mean some braided hose, not a rubber hose...that was a brain fart. Can't make it look too ugly.(ier) I might check out one of those summit kits...they look decent.

Its still rubber hose, just has a flashy cover. But its your truck, I just bend new steel lines to replace mine.

Re: a little fuel line help...
why is rubber hose good for starting up an engine fire?

Re: a little fuel line help...
Didn't GM use rubber hose for the transition from the frame to the pump?

Re: a little fuel line help...
there are places rubber hose has to be used. if you use a solid piece of steel line it will flex and bend and eventually crack due to the engine moving up and down. stock would be rubber from tank to the frame steel line down the frame then rubber from frame to pump then steel from pump to carb

Re: a little fuel line help...
Also if the rubber hose leaks at either of those places chances are the fuel will just spill on the ground not pool on a hot engine.

Re: a little fuel line help...
thats why ALOT of sanctioning bodies dont allow the use of rubber fuel lines except in rare cases as transitional (very short) pieces
once or twice a year on this board theres always a BOOHOO post "my truck dun burned up"
