Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Mounting three point safety belts.

Jay "Lugnutz" posted up this tutorial, I think it is great and despite not liking safety belts, I will be fitting a set to my truck.

LINK: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=679368

Just need to find the right donor set.

Where's Martin?

I looked at that last night as well, very good tutorial . I see a trip to the salvage yard coming soon . The trouble with most late cars Rian is, the belt roll is hidden inside the b pillar, so it doesn't have any form of covering on it . So in other words it unsightly . Now to find a set in the UK that's externally mounted .

Thnks Don. You get to see it before everyone else with your previews.

I will be honest, I was going to bin it three hours I today.

The welding was a pain too as the metal was so compromised from rust and old age.

Still, it is done.

Nicola gave me the day off, so I thought I would finish up the lame horse first....... Then Truck Time !!

Bloody thing took all day to do.

Welded and bashed some more......

Welded into place.

Nothing special, but it's together.

Missed out the wire brush and spray painting the frame.

Then started brush painting it.

Eventually colour mixing, cutting in etc resulted in this......

Happy to say I brought the lame horse up to the house and Nicola approved.

He has now been squirrelled away in the spare room where nobody gets to go into.

Bootfair in the morning.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Eyes wide open Flashed.

Easy as that.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions......... And many a truck build.

After yesterday's Horse Play today had a couple of good Bootfairs pencilled in, followed by some chores and then truck time.

Well, neighbour Mickey came home with some old oak gate and fence posts to unload and get to the back storage (wood turning stock)

Then I moved the bike, pulled the truck out and got it up on the jack so that I could start making the battery carrier for the relocated battery.

I decided to try fit the standard battery in, unlike Ian Browns side terminal model, which is a better idea, but would mean buying a new battery.

So I made a cardboard box dummy to be able to hold it up under the truck, without straining very muscle on a real one.

At this point Mickey was back for another half hour chat....... Get the picture on progress?

Just as he had left, Gene who was collecting the second engineers vice that I got this week, arrived.

What a nice guy, he is an old school sign writer and maybe I will be able to get a couple of examples of his work to show some time.

4 hrs just flew by, after which I packed everything up and closed shop to see him off.

This 5.7 Hemi sounded rather juicy with its Borla and twin exit pipes.

That brought an enjoyable weekend to an end, despite the fact I did very little for the truck.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Bit quiet on the home front.

But got some Satin Black two pack on the way home tonight.

It will be on the inner fenders, fire wall and all out of sight surfaces. My choice.

So £45.00 for another bit of finishing.

Ian,the best part about this and other forums is learning from each other.

Thank you for posting up.

I actually have a complete air fed respirator face mask that I bought for the paint and blasting.

I trust it will do the job.

The last car I painted with two pack, was done with no mask 24 years ago, not clever.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Got a text from Don earlier.

Thanks to Jonathan Hall who had given me a spotlight for the truck a few months ago on the "Paying is Forward" thread for digging around and finding the handle to the spotlight and posting to Don's place to add to the steadily growing pile of parts that need to come back to the UK.

One more thing to get closer to my dream truck with the add ons.

But if you roller it no emissions

Independent review a while back if brushed or rollered no air borne mist.

But yes if spraying air fed mask and all skin covered up , ie gloved and sleeves, i use the paper throw away suits and air mask if spraying 2K

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Mate Martin popped in on his way to his Bike Club meeting tonight to drop off this gift from Ian Brown,, it had me really laughing or at least chuckling out loud this week when he mentioned it would be in the post.

Thanks Ian !!

Today I felt really guilty at my lack of progress recently, I have been busy bit not doing much truck stuff.

So tonight I gathered all the bits needed to make a relocated battery tray, to be fitted under the passenger seat.
This will open up the engine bay a bit.

Started to cut all the flat bar and angle iron needed and dug out some threaded bar needed for the hold down bracket.

Got this far with the welding when the trigger self destructed again, I really need to buy a replacement for my welder, just don't have any idea what to buy that will work on the welder.

At least the first part of the new battery tray is now welded up.

Hope to find somewhere to buy a replacement trigger tomorrow.

Glad you are enjoying the thread Justin.

I use it as a record for what I get up to as well, and often just chuckle when I look back.

Fetched my stick welder back from Mickey next door who has had it at least three months. I think he forgets.

Cut, measured, cut some more and prepped a bunch of bits, then welded it all together up to a point.

I decided to make my battery top clamp horizontal, rather than vertical. Also to run threaded bar with nuts both ends, and hopefully if I can get a metal sheath, I will cover the threaded bar over.

On the way to work today I popped into a specialist nuts, screws etc shop and bought four domed head bolts to,fit the battery tray onto the chassis with, under the cab.

Loads of photos can probably say it all.

I wanted to try retain my top terminal battery, rather than buy the sexy side terminal model Ian had bought.

Front view

Rear view

Diagonal side view.

Without battery, which is a large size 70a/h model.

Finished off by packing away everything and then painting the first coat of Hammerite.

Next coat 06.00
