dark saddle v. med or light saddle

Looking for some clarification on saddle interiors. I thought dark saddle was a 72 only thing. Classic Parts lists dark saddle seat covers for 71-72 and light saddle for 67-70. (No pictures) Then they show dark saddle door panels for 70-71. So my questions are: was dark saddle a 72 only thing? Do the after market guys now produce 72 seat covers and door panels in both light/medium saddle and dark saddle? Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Re: dark saddle v. med or light saddle

Pete- It's a 72 but I'll probably put 71 door panels in it because I like the scroll AND wood look instead of the either/or of the 72 panels, especially with saddle. It will be a work truck and I think the vinyl will be easier to keep clean than the textured surface of the 72 panels. I know I'll have a gap behind the door handles and window cranks, but I thought I'd fill that with a wood disc stained to match the wood strip on the panels. It will look good or like crap. We'll see. Before I went and did this I wanted to verify the various saddles available and at least in my mind, get straight what was original and how that compared with what's out there in the repro market. I still think 72 only had a dark saddle and I'm not really sure if its reproduced despite what the various catalogs list it as. I think all the saddles that are reproduced now are the lighter saddle that was used in all previous years and in the repro world is now used for 72 also. Looking for confirmation or rejection of this theory.

Now the real question is: are you really trying to help me by showing me your Blazer, or are you trying to shame me so I set mine on fire and give up because it will never be that nice? Once you left NM for MT with your Orange K20 I was finally able to take mine out of the shop and drive it around with only minor embarrassment. Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean you're not out to get me.

LOL! My K5 has what I believe is "dark saddle" and has old repro bucket seat covers that look to be the correct color IMO. Can post example pics. Member Truckseats may be able help with the color question. Could you swap in say 71 door/window regulators and loose that gap?

Re: dark saddle v. med or light saddle

Subscribed. My '71 has a saddle interior and I am so confused by the various vendors on what color they are peddling. I think I have determined that the carpet should be dark brown, but that is about all I have figured out at this point. My interior (what's left of the original color seems to match the photos above). So is that dark, light, or just saddle.

Pete- I could swap the regulators but thought the additional wood might look good. Your Blazer looks great and does look like the dark saddle. Are those covers from Tim?

Thanks to everyone for the pictures posted for examples.
Still not sure if there really was different saddles, but I like them all.

Re: dark saddle v. med or light saddle

Bill thank you sir. Those covers came with the K5 - I'll bet Tim could fix you up with nice saddle examples. He just shipped me a nice Highlander plaid cover for a bench in green. Pete

Re: dark saddle v. med or light saddle

I know with saddle seat belts the 69/70s are lighter. They have a dark goldish tone to them. I believe the 71/72 saddles were the same. I have had both at the same time and never noticed a difference. I now have the saddle seat originally from my '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper in my '72 Sierra Custom Camper and it looks just right. I had C.A.R.S. make my herringbone bucket seat covers for a '72 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper I had at the same time as the '71 I mentioned and they were the same saddle. Everything but the door panels in my '72 are from that '71
