Hickey (HE) stuff...

Anybody have a set of HE aux bed mount fuel tanks installed into their K5 and have some pics of said installed tanks. Just picked up a set with one tank being the original HE tank and the other being an aluminum copy. I would like to know what hole is for what when it comes to fuel lines etc as i have no more than a HE catalog to look at and no destructions that would have came with the tanks.

I also finally got a hold of a sidewinder for my very own to hold and to squeeze.....lol. Just gotta drive down to NM to pick it up some time as i allready paid for it.

Hey Doug, how's it going? I can't believe they haven't called you out to work yet . I figured if the temp. is over 100 or under 10 they'd have you out there just to prove a point. Take it easy, Doug

Re: Hickey (HE) stuff...

I've got Hickey tanks. Here is the only picture I have on my computer. The switch for the tanks is on the floor in front of the driver seat. There is only two positions - main & aux - but the gas gauge only works for the main. It draws the fuel from both tanks in line. I haven't used them in about a year and a half. There really isn't much need for them around town - the gas sloshes around and without a gauge they can be a PIA.

Re: Hickey (HE) stuff...

Thank you so much sir! When you have some time if you could...take a bunch of pics of everything...underneath mounting....hose routing....selector switch....diff angles. i want to document as much as possable the HE stuff.
My mailbox can handle 2 gigs according to hotmail so send away when you get the time. I'm kinda half hopeing i can adapt these to my 79 K5 for long range missions....maybe i might just use them with an electric switch to gravity feed the main fuel tank. I've even considered useing a 40 gallon burb tank in the K5.

Man, I just realized my first K5 had a ton of options and I sold it, damit!! It had two aux tanks, luggage rack, swing away tire carrier, etc. I too yanked the tanks, cause I didn't use em or trust em.

Just added you to my buddy list so I can remember to send you some pics. If ya have any trips to Seattle planned, your more than welcome to stop by.

I don't use the tanks, but I won't pull them unless I decide to convert to 2wd. I think they are completely trustworthy as far as being solid, I just don't have a need to keep them full.

Are those wheels the 3-nub type for holding onto the cap or the clip type with the clips gone? Could you send a close up pic of the wheel? Thanks!

Re: Hickey (HE) stuff...

The rims are a 3 nub style with a standard press on hub cap, The rims are 16" and they were custom made for Vic Hickey by Cragar, I will take some photos of my spare rim and post it later tonight, i have 6 original rims on the truck, 4 on the truck and the two in the bed
