Yeah, I'll probably run the ECE unit with a flipped drop hitch, you know- the ones made for big 4wd trucks- just won't be able to open the tailgate while towing.

My concern for legal issues doesn't drive my build. I threw the law out the window a long time ago when the bumpers and lights went below legal limits; hell, I drove it around all summer with open headers and never heard a thing about it. It was no louder than your average Harley

I highly recomend the ECE hidden hitch set up! It comes with everything you need including the lic. plt flip bracket, reciever hitch, hardware and a factory style plug for the wiring so no cutting is needed on your elect system. Not to mention they are over built in quality and yes I have tested mine several times! This was 235miles this weekend alone with this!

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

great work man. You're going to have an even sweeter ride than you did before once it gets back out on the road.

leave the hitch as is and air up the front a bit to make it drag down the road. it'll take care of itself from there

Sweet ride
I was wondering how low could you go with the original bolt on c-notch, I wanted to buy one and all it states is you need it for a 5" drop, I want to lower mine about 6.5" with a CPP coil over set up.

I plan on it

Its actually a 60-66 that I put the 67-72 bed on (I may decide to build a new frame for it)

Right now I have some little firestone bags, no notch, & 3" cups under the bags
Soon I'll be removing the cups, getting a dropped trailer axle, & notching the frame
Should pretty well lay out then

Your ride is looking so sweet man !!!

Gringoloco, can you point me in the direction on the specs of your wheel combo/tire size/wheel manufacturer?

I know that I've seen it in another thread, but I searched during my lunch hour today and came up short.

Thanks in advance...

Hey Gringoloco,... I have a question. Since you have removed the stock rear wheel tubs,... would you have picked a different backspacing for the rear wheels? Would more backspacing helped from cutting the inner bedside? Just wondered since you don't have to worry about the stock sheetmetal surrounding the rear tires now.

They are Coy's C5 20x8.5, 5.25 BS, 255/45 front and 20x10, 5.5 BS, 295/45 rear.

Not with a 10" wheel. A 9" wide wheel would have allowed me to tuck more and not cut the inner bedside, but I don't care for the tucked-in look, so I did what I had to do to make it look right to me.

The only way I'd do more BS is with a wider wheel, but I am limited by the back seat. There is only 1/2" clearance on either side of the seat between the tubs. Now, on my truck, that is a different story altogether. The limiting factor for wheel width is the framerail- I'm thinkin' a set of the 20x14 Coy's wrapped in fat-ass Mickey T's

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Turned her around and started disassembling the front in preparation for the Dropmember. Got the motor out and started cleaning it up. This is a really strong running little 350 that I'd hate see go to waste so it will go in my pickup. The Blazer will be receiving something a little more modern to go with it's new suspension...

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

Can't wait to see the new motor in that truck! Are you going to swap over to a 700R4 with the new motor?

Thanks for the info on your wheels, I know that you've probably been asked on numerous occassions. On your SWB are you planning on doing any major modifications to the suspension like your Blazer, or are you just planning on mainly bagging it? Do you think the wheel size/backspacing on your C5's would work well on a SWB?

You are going to hate that motor Or should I say you are going to hate buying 20" tires If it runs anything like mine it will put a smile on your face everytime you floor it. What trans, harness, are you going to use? Let me know if you need any info on the install.

Is that a iron headed 99 or 2000 motor?

The good 700r4 that I have is staying with my truck for right now since it gets actually driven a lot more than the Blazer. I'm probably just gonna use the TH350 behind it for the time being and swap out later for a 4L60E or T56.

The wheels would fit perfectly on a 71-72 truck. The 67-70 had a slightly narrower track width, but a front disc swap and a late rear axle would remedy that. Actually, the Dropmember was originally purchased with the intent of installing it in the truck, but I just couldn't resist putting the Blazer down on the ground... I may just do the simple bag set-up that was on the Blazer before and toss-in the 427 I have sitting on a stand; that's a ways off though, and plans tend to change a lot 'round here

It will be a while, but I will detail the install in another thread. I already had a 6.0 build thread going before I decided to do all the suspension work- I'll link to it from here and continue there when the time comes.

Yeah, these engines are the $h!t- my buddy just got done putting in a 5.3 with a TR220 cam and long tubes in his '66 pickup- and man, it will get it. The tranny will likely be a TH350 for now and I'm using the factory harness that I removed all the unnecessary wires from. I'll be sure to hit you up if I reach any snags now that I know you have a completed conversion under your belt. I've spent a lot of time researching the swap and don't think I'll hit any major obstacles, but you never know...

Sounds like you have done your homework. I am trying to get where I can put a video or two on my computer from the camcorder Maybe in a week or two I will have some footage. Bad thing is the alt. went out on it and I am waiting for my replacement to get here so I haven't been able to do a burnout in a week now Are you going to buy a tci flexplate or use a 98 ls1 plate?

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good Blazer...

hey gringo,

What are you using to enclose the rear wheel wells?? or are you just going to let it be open to see the back wheels?? The body guy doing my roadster called today to say that the wheel wells I brought him needed some work and I immediately thought about your post. What did you pay for those fenders??

The stock one will work by elongating the holes for the TC. The snout depth will be correct since I have an early 'long' crank, otherwise I would have to use a spacer. I am trying to buy as few of the fancy 'conversion' parts as I can and still have it be nice.

I am using 13" wide trailer fenders that are cut down to the correct height and flanged to bolt in the factory holes. They will be closed in on either side with 16ga sheetmetal. There is a link in Frizzle Fry's inner fender mods post in the suspension forum to the place where I bought 'em. They were just under $100 for the pair including shipping. Shipping was ~$30 I think.
