Uncommon Dash Bezel?

So i went to a local junk yard today and found a 81-84 chevy(not sure as it had nothing to say what year it was) and found this bezel that someone removed.(They took the gauges which had the tach =( )...

It has a square in the middle top where it has light sockets for check engine light, which would be great for anyone wanting to install camaro tach and still keep the factory look as the camaro tach does not have a place for those lights.

This is the back.

up close

I have never seen this type of dash bezel and wondering if it came from factory like this or if someone customized this.

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

does it actually say "check engine"? I wonder if it was out of a C40 or larger. iirc, in the larger trucks, the "engine overspeed" light was in that position.

hope someone will chime in and set us straight!

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

Yes it says CHECK ENGINE on one side and the other side is blank.

It was a C20 shortbed truck.

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

I believe its 86=87 bezel. The other light would say glow plugs. My 86 C30 has the same bezel with a 454 Use you imagination and figure out how to make it a shift light.

82-91 Diesel. My 83 and 84 have the same bezel. And other trucks I've driven have it.

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

they were used in diesel and computerized electronic ignition models for check engine lamp or glow plug-water in fuel lamps I have 4 or 5 of these bezels loose and two in my trucks the last one pulled was a check engine lamp model from an 85 4.3 v6 short box with electric carb and computer controled ignition!

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

Not all were diesels. I have one in my 84 that I pulled out of an 86 1 ton that had a 350. Truck was 100% original, so I know some redneck didn't put that in there.

I've seen it on more than one gasser. Who knows what GM was thinking. Maybe it was put together on a Friday??

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

The warning lamp section of it pops out of the housing.

I didn't know there were check engine light versions out there. I'll have to keep my eye open so I can use it in the diesel housing I picked up.

Anybody know how the lens section is held in the lamp housing part? It looks to me like it might be held in by a trim bezel that is glued in place.

My 88 454 1 ton has this light as well. It lights check engine when I first start it up.

Re: Uncommon Dash Bezel?

It looks like there are retainers made into the light body that hold it into the bezel.

That bezel would be 84-up (no wiper switch hole).

I have seen a few with no bulbs in the sockets for unused warning lamp spaces and am curious if there is a second function of the gas engine version of the center high warning cluster other side or if it is a true blank lens.

The other lens is blank
Speedometer has 4x4 and choke lights
Gas gauge has fasten seat belt and brake lights

Thanks, I only need the alt, SES and brake warning lamps but only have two slots to use.

I currently have the SES & brake lenses put together in the speedo with no alt warning lamp because of the clock and the Camaro tach.

If I can't find a T-400 splined NP205 I might need a 4x4 light too when I do the automatic conversion so that extra spot up high will come in handy.

Thanks again for the info.

Just trying to figure out the year ranges they did this with the gas motor trucks.

Looks like about 84-up with the square body from the different years people have posted.
