vehicle identification # breakdown

I'm looking at 2002 to 2006 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. There is very little differences I can see between the years. Or I just don't know what to look for. Which digit in the VIN # denotes the year model? I think this might be the easiest way to differenciate one from the other.
And for that matter each digit of the vin tells us something about the vehicle.

Re: vehicle identification # breakdown

Isn't there also a free site you can enter the vin # and gain info on that vehicle?

Re: vehicle identification # breakdown

theres a few differences. the middle console is different after 02, so are the window switches and the seat belt part where the seat belt comes out.

Re: vehicle identification # breakdown

Old thread but for anyone looking to run their VIN #.....

Compnine is actually doing a free 7-day thing right now. Dunno how long it will last.
