1968 396 cu in C20
I've been searching the internet trying to find out how many 1968 C20s Chevrolet built with the 396. Does anyone have a source for this type of information?
I'm also wanting to know how many of the '68 trucks were equipped with the bucket seat option. I find contradictory information on the internet and want to know if there is a definitive reliable source for Chevy production and option numbers. |

Welcome to the forum!!!!
I don’t think the 396 was an option in the trucks, more like a BB 402 yes! The buddy buckets were only in 66 GMC and 67-68 c10’s with the custom interior option. You should have a SPID on the glovebox door to tell you what your truck came with. https://www.oldride.com/library/1968_chevrolet_c20.html https://itstillruns.com/1968-chevrol...s-7755670.html

It definitely has a 396... actually, you're not the first person who asked me if I were sure it came with a 396. That's kinda why I'm asking the forum. Hagerty's shows the 396 for 1968 but only on the C20. If I knew how to post pics, I would include the option sticker attached inside the glove box door.

Yes, 68's and 69's got 396's, 402's after....
Not sure if there's any available documentation showing production numbers. My guess is not many....I have one, and have seen a few at car shows. Mine is a C-10. |

Re: 1968 396 cu in C20
Since it's a C20, it's LWB and it was built with leaf springs in the rear. I want to shorten it and lower it using drop spindles/springs and a coil spring rear suspension set-up. Probably a 4/6 drop. Oh, and disc brakes of course.

This truck is a C20 Custom Camper... so it has custom trim level and the SPID shows that it was built with the bucket seats. Anyhow, it must have been possible to get the bucket seats in the C20. I wish that I understood how to post pics... Thanks for responding to this post. |

And it was definitely built with a 396 per the SPID.

Re: 1968 396 cu in C20
The 396 was not just available in the C20's. Many years ago I helped a friend pull the original 396/TH400 out of a '69 C10 short step.

Re: 1968 396 cu in C20
Some information out there may be misleading, as in 1970 and 71, what was marketed as a 396 was actually 402 C.I.
