Is this your project car... or a sample of what you'd like to build? And I like old cars too!

Sometime an obscure project can be frustrating if you need any specific unreproduced part.

1961 Oldsmobile Starfire , I've restored a few of those interiors for a man in St Petersburg, Fl . Back oh , 20-22 years ago . He had 6 if I remember right . Very solid cars and the deluxe interior was very detailed . Drove like a dream down the road . heavy car with a big engine for it's time . Lots of Chrome . Nice .

Parts were always an issue .

Yes, I like those. We were just talking about the '61 Olds at Carlisle last weekend by coincidence. I love all the '61 GMs. The friend I was talking to likes the Olds. The Pontiac Ventura is my dream car. But the Impala is no slouch

Re: Am I the Only One Who Likes These?

I prefer trucks, but my dad used to have a red 64 Olds convertible with white interior. If I was going to get a car that would be the one for me. Given the opportunity I wouldn’t turn down that 61 you posted either.

That's beautiful! Makes me wish I had my '64 Impala convertible back. It was fixed all nice like the Olds. One of my neighbors has a '63 or '64 Olds convertible. Last I saw it was in his garage with all the removable body panels off. Guess it's getting painted.

So when you say "...these...", do you mean:

Oldsmobiles?

Convertibles?

Jet age styling?

Passenger cars?

Orphan brands?

I have a '63 Grand Prix (which I like very much), so it is of the same era, but certainly much more understated as far as the styling goes.

I have a lead on one owned by the guy who did the paint and body on both my '69 truck and '58 Vette. He bought it as an abandoned project from a customer about 20 years ago. The entire front end has been repaired and primed, and most of the chrome is also done. The engine was rebuilt but never started. It is almost totally disassembled. The color is the same as the one in the pictures.

Parts are a big concern of mine. It's supposedly complete, but that's very difficult to determine since it's apart and has been moved a few times from warehouse to warehouse. The owner and I have discussed laying everything out to see what's there. I trust him and he'd probably assist with parts or labor if something is not right.

By "these" I mean '61 Starfires which were all convertibles.

I've always been an Olds and Chevy guy. I learned to drive in a '60 Olds. That said, I put lots of miles on my mom's '63 Grand Prix. Really liked that one too.

Re: Am I the Only One Who Likes These?

That is a beautiful car. But finding obscure parts would be a concern to me as well. I've owned a couple of rare cars and that was my biggest problem. If it's complete I'd pull the trigger in a minute. I love those big old convertibles. And that's a sweet ride.

And with the 3D printer technology now. You can reproduce parts. Although I'm not sure what kind of price tag that would bring. I'm guessing it would be high.

It makes me miss my 69 Impala convertible. I could put six people in it and just float down the road with the top down. Had some good times in that car.

Re: Am I the Only One Who Likes These?

I really like them. Who wouldn't??? Its a decent sized car, without being overly big.

I have a 65 Corvair (not running) project in the wings. Although I love the styling of the 65 Vair I sort of wish I would have picked up something a tad bigger for better back seat room. After doing a back seat "mock-up" with the grand kids its going to be tight for adults in the back. But I guess how often would you be driving around with extra adults?

Used to have a 61 Lincoln Convertible ... no problems with room in that one =)

.

There were a lot of complaints when those Lincoln’s first came out in 61. The interior was a lot smaller than the previous model. I like them.

Re: Am I the Only One Who Likes These?

Go for it Jim. That is a beautiful car.

I bought a 56 Nomad once that had been moved a couple times. It was missing Nomad specific parts and even before the internet, with the help of Hemmings I found them all.

WE have a 62 Impala convertible in the warehouse now that is disassembled and had been moved a couple of times. We have a complete parts car, and two of almost everything, but an Impala will be easy to find parts for compared to a Starfire.

If it's a 60 model anything just about GM I like it. I have a 64 SS Impala all numbers matching car.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
