Not by much, it didn't get passed 40 for a couple days, I took a 30+ minute shower and was still frozen.

We are both absolutely loving the colors. I've even had two neighbors come over and tell me how much they like it! That was a bit of a surprise.

I got the "high side" of the garage done. I've realized I hate scaffolding and heights. I had a full harness with one of those spring cords for safety and I still wasn't feeling it. It wasn't the actual height. It was the gap I had to leave so the scaffolding didn't hit the roof and climbing up and down. Props to the guys that do it every day. I have the cage to put up around it... Just not a fan.

I have a friend that buys and sells equipment all the time. He found a 40' boom bucket truck (like power company uses) I'm going to go in with him on it (a small portion for a couple month "friend rate" rental). There's just too many "scary" places, like over the garage roof, the peak over the porch, and the 34' height of the peak on the left side, and even over the 30" overhang I made on the back. Looking back I should have sided that side (with the deck it really isn't that high) and just removed the siding I needed to to build it.

Here's an awful pic. I finished this side today. It felt so good to put that last little triangle in!

Supposed to be 50 tomorrow so I'd like to completely finish the soffit/fascia around the garage, finish up around the fireplace, and have one level 100% done. It looks fantastic with the new soffit and trim.

I also firmly believe that the house is warmer already.

I hadn't mentioned this before, but another asinine thing the jackholes that built my house did, was instead of squaring the 2x4 ends of the house to each other and then overlapping the sheeting, the outside of the 2x4 front and rear walls are "flush" with the sheeting on the side wall, meaning the front and rear walls have exposed 2x4's at each corner. What this does is leaves a gap for cold air to blow right in because the sheeting doesn't perfectly butt up to the 2x4 wall. Nice. To fix that I wrapped each corner with the rubber/vinyl stuff I used to protect the roof.

It's stupid stuff like that, that completely ruins the efficiency of a home. Even though he's kinda weird, I really like that "Holmes on Homes" guy. I feel like I would get along well with him...

The weather has SUCKED the last two days. It hasn't gotten warmer than 30* and I don't want to install any siding under 45-50* because of how hot it gets here in the summer. I don't want it to be at it's shortest possible length. Plus, it's C O L D!!! I nearly froze to death finishing up the front of the garage soffit. It was so crooked I ended up replacing half of it with a new 2x6. I hope the upper soffits are at least somewhat straight because I really just want to replace the vented soffit and trim and be done with it.

Close up of the back cleaned up. Previously, everything back here was either just screwed to the siding or had a hole cut around it. The only things I kept like that were the telephone and cable boxes in case they ever needed to be swapped out.

Looks like your moving right along. Contact the manufacture of your siding and ask what you should do for measuring in the temperatures that you have. I think that they will give you info on the expansion and contraction for your siding at any given temperature.

I feel your pain I live in Idaho and I'm weathering in my shed in 0 night temperatures and 10-15 degrees for the high, just have to put more layers on.

Fun project and it's coming along nicely.

Same old crap, different side of the house... half of the sheeting was literally loose, I could bang it with a hammer and watch it move in/out. So that was how I spent my sat/sun, remove old siding, nail all of the sheeting back down, reseal around the window (no pic, but previous installer did ****ty job) and get it covered up. Luckily there was only one small spot that bowed up enough (from not being nailed) to warrant replacement

From ground to peak is somewhere around 38-40' off the ground. I was nuts to ever think I was going to get this with scaffolding.

My hats off to the guys that do this with just ladders, or ladder jacks. Insane.

So after the initial run up to 45', I felt a lot better operating it. It's actually SUPER EASY to operate.

The bucket it so deep you feel pretty safe it in, but I was still wearing my full body harness with safety strap connected to the arm.

Buckets are way easier than gafs or ladders, but I still prefer the ground

You're not kidding. I don't know how I ever thought I was going to do this on scaffolding. It would take me an entire weekend just to get that much scaffolding set up!

It will be a little slow going installing the siding, but this side is the last huge side that needs massive amounts of siding. The front and back only need 13 rows and there's a lot of windows.

I really only need the truck to do the eaves/corners along the front, I can stand on the porch for the rest.

Above the garage should be interesting. The bucket is so deep I plan on using the bucket to tie off to and hop out and use it as a "blocker" to keep my ass from sliding off the roof because I won't be able to reach the bottom couple of feet. That's what i had to do over the little roof below the bathroom window. I set the bucket almost on the roof, hopped out, and redid the seal along the wall/roof, taped the wrap down, and actually installed the trim siding piece, I should be able to reach enough to nail the siding now.

Nice work. A bucket truck is really handy so we keep this old one around, though it will only reach up to 25 feet.

The side sheeting was never nailed down?

I think this one's "safe range" is 50'? But I think it can reach up to 55-60'. I only got it up to +/-45', just above my roof line.

So, the way my house was built, they used about 6-8 actual nails to hold each sheet, then they used 1.5" staples down the studs, and really, not enough either. Over time, because there's no shank, the staples have worked loose, and as I found in some instances, there were studs or edges that only had 3 or 4 for an 8' section. I can't make this crap up. I'm using 2.25" shanked exterior nails with my paslode cordless nailer. The nails I use are expensive, like $50/box. I think I'm up to 6 or 7 boxes now, probably take 8 to finish the whole thing. Yeah, $400 in nails. I've also had to replace about 3 full sheets worth of sheeting that I thought had bowed too much from coming loose, at $30 each.

I found the same problem on the inside of the house. We had REALLY squeaky floors upstairs, like literally every step. When I pulled all of the old stained carpet up I found they glued the floors with with about 10-15 screws per sheet Over time the glue came loose because there wasn't enough screws and squeaky floors. I think I spent $300 on exterior grade decking screws and did the entire upstairs and the living room floor downstairs, and even our staircase and 9 years later there's only 1 spot in the entire upstairs that squeaks when you step on that area.

I found this pic online, but this is what my 2nd floor floor joists look like, the subfloor was glued down to the top with minimal screws (I know this because I replace a small section in a bathroom from a leaky toilet, it was a ***** to get up):

I also highly recommend the paslode framing nailer. It's $, the nails are $, the fuel isn't too bad, but having the freedom of NOT having a cord has been fantastic. I built my entire shed by myself with it and everything else around the house. I've also literally put thousands of nails through my paslode trim nailer as well.

If you work by yourself a lot, this thing is an absolute must have.

Hate it when folks cut corners like that. I think I would be very dangerous (to myself) with any kind of nail gun. I do enough damage with a hammer.

I agree on the Paslode nailers. I have the framing nailer, and the angled finish nailer. I wouldn't be without either!

Started the weekend with another WTF moment. I really have no explanation for this. I had a lot planned to do with a huge all day rain event coming today (sunday) so I got it covered up. I'll trim the 2x4 down when I have more time.

I got the peak stripped and was surprised to find that the gable vent wasn't venting

The accent roof is built on top of the main roof and has a ridge vent, but I cut a small hole behind the new vent anyway, at least make it functional, right?
