Dead horse getting beaten some more...

So I just run across a set of 17x8.5 wheels with a +18 offset. Now if I did the math right that is real close to 5.5" backspacing. How will this work on my 78 stepside? I did not like the way the 15x7 with 4" of back spacing set so deep in hte wheel well. These should sit out an extra inch and a half, correct?

NEed help quickly before I place the order...

Basic math....

'Original' wheels you didn't like because they set so deep in the well = 15 x 7 w/a 4" BS.
'New' wheels you're considering = 17 x 8.5" w/approx. 5.5" BS.

New wheels are +1.5" wider but have an equal amount of additional BS (5.5 - 4 = 1.5") resulting in a new wheel that sits exactly the same in the wheel well from the outer edge of the sheet metal.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

yEAH, i figured that out. But for the price I can use a set of spacers to push them out an inch or so without issue. Basically $50 per wheel shipped.

Unless you like the style of the new wheels or prefer a wider tire, sounds like you could get a wider look buy using the same spacers on your current wheels/tires.

HATE the current set up for 2 reasons. One, not a square setup. Fronts are 15x7 4"BS, rears are 15x10 4"BS. Can't get a lot of tire on the fronts. 2nd I hate chrome steelies. So I was going to need a set of wheels anyway with the plans I have for it and I wanted something with a better look. These look much better:

than these:
