WOW, that looks amazing! If you wouldn´t know, you couldn´t really tell the difference! And if you say it clears 37" tires with 4" lift, awesome! That is what I need to do with mine! Do you happen to have a few more pics from the side? looking directly at the fender? Thanks!

Re: OEM looking fendertriming for 37" tires

I'll need to get some good side photos, I never made a point of photographing the work in progress... The brown is "factory" by the book, but the actual factory color is a little darker and purple-ish.

Re: OEM looking fendertriming for 37" tires

I know i'm kinda late to the party, but here is what i plan to do to my '91 crewcab. Section the front and rear of the opening to make it wider and also section it up to make it taller. Check the pics to see what I mean!

Hope this is not to late and it helps!

Re: OEM looking fendertriming for 37" tires

Here is what I did to mine.......see thread for more information. Front fender was lengthened front and back 1.5", and up and inch as well if I remember right. Also brought the front section up to the bottom of the rad support, and brought the rear portion up to the bottom of the door so that it looked right when I put the rock sliders in place. Rear quarters were brought up as well and moved rearward to accomodate the flex of the 56" leaves.

looks really nice! But you can´t run inner fenders with that, correct? at least not the stock ones!?

Re: OEM looking fendertriming for 37" tires

Yes, running stock inner fenders. See thread for pics.

I had to tack weld mine in place due to structure issues on the bolt placement, but with more careful cuts it would not be a huge issue, just time consuming. But I wanted the same thing you do........more clearance and a somewhat factory look. The K5 above in the picture only has a 3-4" lift with 35" tires on 16x8 wheels.

did you stretch the inner fenders too? Mine are farely close up top to the stock opening and only "separate" from the outer edge toward the bottom in the front and back.
I guess I´ll just have to tear into it and go step by step. I want to keep my side marker, but on the 73-80 it is easier due to it being upright.

the tough part for me is, 3-4" lift with 37x12.50R17s and long travel suspension. I´d love to be able to turn the wheels lock to lock at full compresion without touching anything. Not even sure if that works with a 37" tire.
I´m also thinking about a wheel with more backspacing to reduce the forward and back motion of the wheel. but I can only go so far on BS because otherwise the tire will hit the (for now leaf pack) upper or lower 4-link bar.

Thanks for your info!

No, all stock. I just made slits in the fender inner structure where they bolt on and bent them upwards a bit. Some light hammer/dolly work on the sheetmetal and wasn't that bad actually. Fenders were alot more stressful and more work.

I think you should be fine....mine has decent travel for a leaf sprung suspension and doesn't even come close on 35's.

Back spacing won't effect your forward and rearward motion....just on the side to side clearance when you turn. A 3-4" back spacing will hit close to the middle of an 8" wheel and should be fine.

thanks for the info. Once I get the fenders modified, I can see how far I can go up on full bump and determine the ride hight. Then I can match the rear suspension to it.
The wheels will most likely be 17x8.5 with 4.75" BS. With 37x12.50 tires.

thanks, I´ve seen that table before, but you can fit larger tires if you modify the fenders enough. I was running a 4" lift with 35´s and had no rubbing issues even though it states in this table you need to trim the fenders. I guess it also depends on wheel width, back spacing and the tire you are running.

I´m planning on max 4" lift with 37" tires and no rubbing anywhere. I´ll keep you posted if that works out.

Mine has 4" inch leafs, 0 rates (ORD), and 1" body pucks (ORD) Gives it 6" of lift with the ride of a 4" spring.

Tires are 36/13.50 bias plys, which measure to almost 37" when fully inflated.
