Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Saw this 67 CST for sale locally today. Buddy buckets and factory seat belts? Just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts on the belts! Unfortunately no spid. Seat belts are dated late 1966.

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Also had plugs in the floor where lap belts would mount

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Someone else will have more detail but... the shoulder belt mount point was installed in all 67-72 C10s. Whether the 3 point harness was an option in '67... I'm not real sure but it was certainly available as an aftermarket upgrade for anyone back then that wanted it!

However, I strongly suspect that since GM installed the anchor, the belt would have been available as an option at order time.

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Someone took the plug from the pillar and put it on the floor. The factory shoulder belt should have a rubber boot retainer and the mounting buckle end should not be bent like that.

Looks like they moved belt from floor to the upper cab mount

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

.
FYI...
I have no idea what the law in CA is but in TX, even though the '67 did not come with shoulder belts standard ( and is therefore exempt from the seatbelt laws ), if they are installed in the truck the driver/passenger can be cited/ticketed for NOT wearing them!

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Yeah, someone slapped some lap belts up there. The spid will tell you if it originally came with shoulder belts.

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Weren't the factory 3 point belt a 2 piece design? With 1 buckle for the waist and one for the shoulder.

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

They were two separate belts, two separate buckles, and a pain in the a$$ to use

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

There wouldn't be shoulder belts without the lap belt. I too say the belt was moved from the floor to the cab corner

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Hey Guys - I'm new to the forum and new to C10s too. Just bought a 69 C10 Stepside and noticed the circular tab at the top of the B-pillar. If I understand this thread correctly, you're saying that is intended for 3 point seat belts? Punch out the tab and there's a welded nut behind it?
Thanks Ken (Was a Ford guy until I fell in love with this C10!)

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

It is threaded and you can add modern 3 point belts for safety. Welcome to the board!

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Thanks leddzepp, That's what I was hoping for. My 69 is bright red stepside with power disc brakes, A/C, and power steering. Still has a strong 250ci inline6 and 3 on the tree. Will post pics when I figure out how. Thanks again for the reply.

Re: Shoulder Belts on 67 CST

Other than using different mounting hardware, this is all GM did for their factory option belts...with an absolutely necessary lap belt as well. I've gone all the way and built a few trucks with the factory shoulder belts. Was a fool for finding/buying those for years...had to have them! But after using these trucks I decided factory shoulder belts are great for a show ready restoration, but in the trucks I drive I'll take the modern aftermarket (or factory) 3 pts. Same as radial tires, good tunes, battery... there are better alternatives when vehicle is actually used to drive. I'd like to make that chrome 3-way male piece of buckle and have some proper 3 pts made up using stock width & original buckle. If a seat belt company would make a set like that in original colors they wouldn't be able to make them fast enough.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
