New Project... Low 50

Hey all, I have been more of a reader than poster on this site for quite some time. Spend most of my time on the 67-72 side. Well here I am, forum jumper with a new project. Figured I might start my own build thread.

Here are the details:

1950 Chev 3600... soon to be lower and shorter!

whats done so far:
No Limit air ride IFS
Suicide Doors tri-4 link with notch and bags

Plan to lay running boards on 18/20 combo. Should be a nice cruiser for the wife!

Some pics:

Re: New Project... Low 50

I also need some measurements if anyone can help. Getting ready to shorten my frame. I know I need to shorten 9.25", however I need thhe measurements from the each of the runningboard braces/supports for a shortbed. How far apart are each one. I dont have any runningboards yet.

Thanks

Jason

Yes... The chev rearends are a cast center, so you cant get close to 45* on your triangulated bars, unless you reverse them and go from the outside of the rearend to a crossmember. I didnt want a crossmember in that location, therefore I built that to connect the bars. If I had a 9" ford housing, you can weld to the center of the housing a lot easier.

Jason-

Curious what is involved with shortening a frame. I have a few questions. Did you support the truck on jack stands when you performed the surgery? From the photos it was hard to tell.

What did you use to make your cuts in the frame. Cut off wheel or sawsall by chance.

You are making nice progress.

Thanks
Marc

Re: New Project... Low 50

Marc,

It is really not that difficult, this is my 3rd shorten job. The entire frame is leveled on a combination of jacks and blocks. Just make sure it cant move. Then everything else is simple... just measure 4000 times and cut once. measure 4000 times again and weld once. measure another 4000 times just to make sure it is exactly where it needs to be. Reinforce the hell out of it, boxed it etc. Simple huh
