Somad

This is my former project Somad i sold Oct 4 08. I have now purchased it back. Im posting the old build pics then will be updating as we go
1972 Suburban 3 door had it layd out on 20's before with nice engine/trans but decided to go all the way with it. Built 362/350turbo with custom engine cover and lots of billet. Custom tubular frame from front to back doin 20/22 combo w/ One off Devious Wheels. Building tubular control arms and custom satchell link setup, frame and all components will be smoothed and painted/powdercoated and everything will be plumbed with polished stainless hardline. the body has received Avalanche taillights, Pt Cruiser door handles, 67 hood on 72 front end, custom rear corners/rollpan, shaved mouldings, shaved door locks, shaved emblems, shaved marker lamps, all rust repaired with modified truck/blazer patches and all the suburban parts i could find available. Doin Bear Claw latches on the doors and hidden hinges on the rear gate/hatch, custom rear floor to conceal suspension

Re: Somad

Welded in a few xmembers and got started welding in the front xmember, gotta cut it up and make it all nice still but this mofo will lay a 31" tire now although im still just doin a 20 on the front and 22 on rear
23's what what
Started cuttin the xmember up this evening and got it ready to plate and fab upper arm mounts.

Got the ends of xmember plated and the upper control arm mounts modified/fabbed and welded in and then went and picked up a 9 inch ford rearend housing/axles for it tonight

Got the front bag brackets fabbed, welded in, and gusseted and a few other small filler panels welded in today. It will still lay a 30" tire with no prob...firestone used for mockup due to slams being so stiff LOL

Re: Somad

Finally found a place to get the rims/tires mounted/balanced, they had a badass machine that never touched the rim at all thing was like 11k for the machine. Anyway here are the pics the chassis will actually be rolling by end of week and we may sit the body on for body mount placement this weekend

Re: Somad

got the front xmember notched and ready for the rack waitin on tierod ends now and some steel to build the rear bag brackets/crossmembers

Got the rack mounted tonight finally hopefully Brian finds the heims he has so i dont have to order some to finish off the steering. Gotta finish welding and moulding the mounts into xmember and put the heims on and its a done deal on frontend other than changing to tubular lower arms

Got the mounts welded fully and ground smooth mounted rack then set the engine/tranny in there so i can fab mounts

Re: Somad

Got the rear bag xmember mocked up still gotta plate it and drill all the lightening holes so it matches rest of stuff ive built. Welded the lowerer bag brackets and trimmed them to fit lower bars. Thing is capable of Donkish lift which means once its set up with shocks it will ride like a dream. Decided today its goin to ///RA show the club wants it there whethers its way Under Destruction or not LOL...

Re: Somad

Well as most of u know i(like a dumbdumb) thought i wanted to sell this thing and i did last Oct.......Well i have kicked the **** out of myself since the day it left and especially when the new owner cut it in half and shortened the body 33 inches. I am buying it back and picking it up today then work will begin reconstructing the work they did shortening it and also extensive work to the roof to make it look correct and in proportion in the shorter version(i thought at first i hated it but after staring at pics and drawing the roof with all the mods ima do it actually is gonna look better than ever.

Here's a pic of it in StreetTrucks ///Allstar 08 Coverage

Here's one of what the guy i sold it to did

Here's a sissor and tape photoshop of it shortened altho the roof is not really changed like its gonna be...

Re: Somad

starting over 33 inches shorter LOL

ready for shortening and a lot of cleanup..

Drail made a rack to sit the body on so i can move the right wheel well back and do some metal work on all the lower surfaces

Once wheelwell is moved back 9 1/4" like the other side we can put it back on the frame(once its modified) and start the roof mods

The 3rd door ///Big Bill had striped and gave me for Christmas 08

Re: Somad

Got the frame shortened 33 inches(24 through middle and 9 off the backend) then started shortening and redesigning the Satchell link setup. Got to add a lot of gussets and fab the upper bag mounts now.

Re: Somad

Wow, I just went thru the thread. I remember seeing your 08 pics, that's crazy that you sold it and then bought half of it back. About 2 years ago I really wanted to shorten a burb like this, I'm glad to finally see someone do it. This pic was my inspiration. I'm subscribing.
