Where does this go?

I can't remember where this belongs and can't see it in any of the photos that I took. It's not the piece that straddles an intake runner near the front of the engine on the drivers side, as I have already put that piece on. I took a lot of pictures as I tore my truck down, but I should have taken more from multiple angles. I assume it goes on top of the engine some where, that's why I painted it along with other engine pieces. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you're doing a full on restoration... it's not needed.

Re: Where does this go?

I recall having at least one. Nice way to pull an engine I'd say, especially with a leveler.

Re: Where does this go?

They don't work well if you use a single chain to lift the engine, they will bend. I know that's not what they did at the factory.

If I get your meaning, that's because of the force too close to a 180 angle. These require a 90, or near anyway.

From what I understand, the assembly line used a spreader bar with pins that go in the holes in the brackets, so all the lifting force is straight up. I tried lifting mine with a chain hooked between the two brackets and lifting in the middle. It caused the brackets to bend to the center of the engine. Obviously not ideal. They would work pretty well if you could rig up some sort of spreader between the brackets.

Load leveler works well with these lift points.

Re: Where does this go?

Say, came across the lift bracket(s) off my 71. I knew I'd seen these. Couple questions/observations illustrated by the picture. Any knowledge appreciated.

Edit. At another look, none of mine are like the OP. Only one is like post 3.

Re: Where does this go?

I install em if have em - if I don't, I feel like I'm saying, 'go ahead, I dare ya to have to be rebuilt any time soon....' And the engine always wins.

The bracket with one bolt hole mounts on the back of the passenger side head
in the bolt hole closest to the intake manifold.

Per post 11 right? If so, then the config. would be the following. Two observations. That puts the rear passenger bracket 1" below the bracket on the front driver's side, and man that's close to the firewall. I'm no expert handling engines by a long shot, but at a glance, I'd never use the rear bracket. Too close.

Nothing like confirmation, thank you. The top of your rear bracket looks bent like mine. I don't suppose that's on purpose.

That rear lifting eye bracket is normally found flat to the rear of pass. side head and usually gets bent when lifting the big block without a load spreader or leveler. Mel

Thanks Mel, appreciate it. On a side @ "pre-bent". Couldn't help it. On another side, being I have the brackets, new leveler & hoist, I figure to mount em.
