K-TEN is that a 16" or 17.5" rim painted red sitting between the trucks?

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Thanks Mark. I've been doing this Internet Discussion board stuff for well over a decade and it was just last night that I finally figured out how to insert a photo from my Webshots album into a thread! Old trucks are easier.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Hey guys, new member here. Just wanted to throw my pics in the pile. This is the 1966 longbed C-10 I am picking up from a friend of mine. Not too bad for a first truck project, and definitly not the worst place I have started from on a build. BTW, there are some VERY nice trucks in here, and some amazing projects, I can only hope mine will earn it's place among the ranks.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Once I get the truck in my possesion I will get a build thread going. This is actually the condition I am taking over the pickup in, minus the ultra-cool Challenger steering wheel. Pictures were sent to me this morning from the previous owner, and I will be hauling her back to my shop on Friday the 16th. I'm gonna do this project basically from the ground up so once the '66 is in my possesion I'm going to tear it all down. Plan is a really basic build as a clean daily driver with a 327/700R4 combo, just a nice classic pickup to drive.

You know, I'm not even sure but I kind of doubt it. If it doesn't I will be looking into the Vintage Air or similar systems as my wife is a big fan of her creature comforts.

Welcome to the forum from Washington state. Body looks nice and straight. Once you get it home make sure to take a ton of before pictures. After taking hundreds of pictures during the build, it's always disappointing to go back and only find a couple of shots (or none) of how it looked in the beginning.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Found the site doing some research. Will post pictures soon. In 1966, my dad brought home from the dealer a turqoise/white C-10, fleetside, with 283 and 3 on the tree. I've got a picture when I was five sitting in the cab when he brought it home. After a two day drive from South Carolina with my 13yr old son, my father, and a family friend helped winch it up on a trailer today from the barn its been in since 1993. It will start the trip from OK to SC tomorrow towed behind a 2004 Chevy 2500HD.

Be sure and take some pictures right when you open the cript doors.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Daverod,

Will do. Amazingly good condition inside and out with some surface rust and standard quarter panel issues behind front wheels. Frame is strong and wood bed is preserved due to a camper being on it from 1966 until yesterday. Tailgate came off in 1966 and was stored. Put it back on and the chains look brand new.

Yes - and then take a whole bunch more after you get it outside. It's easy to start cleaning things up or fixing things right away, perhaps just for the journey home. Adding a mirror, removing the original wheels/tires, etc. Years later when you've taken hundreds of progress photos, it can be very disappointing to realize you didn't take enough (or any) before you got started.

So that's what a "new" tailgate looks like! You will enjoy working on such a pristine, original example of this fine truck!

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Please take a lot of pictures and post them. Were always looking for the real thing for detailing how they were originally. For instance the rear chains and clasp look plated not painted, original?

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Certainly. The clasp and chains were put in a box in '66 and pulled out yesterday. They are not painted. Look to be plated--almost like a galvanized finish--except for the hooks which look almost chrome.
Appreciate the pristine comment. But, will require lots of work. Goal is make it look like it did rolling off the dealer's lot. Although the 13yr old asked if we could paint if black with flames--ha/ha. Lots of memories learning to drive this as my first vehicle, and giving her back to dad while in college--the 75 TR-6 took her place for awhile. One more pic.
