Re: Project: "No Name"

I was checking out your build and was wondering how your por-15 is holding up. What kind of prep work did you do to the frame before you put it on. I just sandblasted the bottom of my cab but I didnt get all the undercoating or rust off. Im trying to figure out if I need to do the por prep and ready or just paint it. how did you do your frame?? Oh im in nc also just 40 minutes south of raleigh.

Re: Project: "No Name"

I pressure washed and degreased the frame, let dry for a week or so and applied the POR-15 base coat and then gloss top coat. Its holding up fantastic. The only thing thats gets it off is a grinder and that was by accident. Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Make sure you wear old clothes and gloves. I had the stuff on my hands for about a month before it finally wore off.

How is the build going. Did you get your big block earlier this year. I'm not a big fan of how life gets in the way of a project. Have a great day!

Re: Project: "No Name"

Hey guys, Just noticed I had some comments on here. Been a little slow on the truck lately. Work has been extensive and funds have been scarse.

Wife and I found out a couple months ago that we have our 3rd child on the way. I have my own family insurance plan, but we didnt have maternity insurance so this one is all coming out of pocket. Gonna cost me about $3500.00 when its all said and done.

I still have a ton of work to do without needing money considering I have to put this thing back together with all the new sheet metal. Gonna be getting back on it hard after the next couple of weekends.

That sounds pretty much like the color I got my truck with. I plan on stripping the truck down eventually to repair whatever bad body work the PO did, including the in-experienced paint job he applied. Looks good from about 10ft, any closer you notice the runs. When I get around to it, the same paint color is going back on. Check out my thread, see if you like the color or not. Good luck getting your project done.

Re: Project: "No Name"

Well, its been awhile since posting as I had another child and funds were tight. But, I put my truck in the metal shop a couple months ago to get some minor work done to the bed and cab and its all done now.

Going to be dropping it off to my paint guy in 2 weeks. I think I am going to go with a BMW color called "Graphite Metallic Grey", paint code A22. What do you guys think?

Maybe put some American Racing Chrome Torq-Thrust ST's on it as well......

Re: Project: "No Name"

Well, its been awhile since I posted any updates on here. For the past two years, the truck went to one body shop, and they sat on it, then went to another and they sat on it, and I finally go it into the hands of a guy that is making it happen for me.

Getting there now! Supposed to be picking it up next weekend!

Re: Project: "No Name"

As life goes, just been busy the past few years. Between new houses, relocating, travel baseball and all the activities of the 4 kids, progress has been slow. However, I have been spending money on parts!

Finally got to put the old truck in the new house this past weekend from storage as I had it there for a year while we were waiting on a new house to be built.

In the past two years, I’ve collected new brake lines, 4 wheel willwood disc brake kits, 5 lug conversion kits, drop spindles, new interior carpet and seats, new steering column, new gauges and a slew of misc items.

Most important item I’ve been working on is getting the 496 built for this beast. Picking it up here in about 4 weeks to get dyno’d And then drop it in the hole!

Bound to be more action shortly on this build thread.....

Re: Project: "No Name"

Well, I started the day with planning to get the rear disc brake kit installed, but I ordered the wrong length Moser axles, so I'm stuck until the fedex man arrives this week the new ones. Went ahead and ordered an aluminum diff cover and some diff fluid while I was at it.

Went ahead and got the front bumper installed, started working on the steering column and shook at all my Wilwood dice brake parts to be ready for next weekend.

Re: Project: "No Name"

This weekend I was able to spend some time on the old girl and route the new wiring harness and SS brake lines. Also went ahead and placed more Labor Day orders for LED lighting, wing glass, regulators, door glass, windshield, rear glass and lower body trim from Classic Parts. Also placed a Summit order for the SS headers, mufflers, aluminum fan, electric fans, motor mounts and starter.

Goal is to have her running by Christmas, but we will see how that goes!

Re: Project: "No Name"

Past 3 or 4 weeks have been productive on the ol' girl, so I've been happy to say the least! Motor is completed and ready for dyno, just waiting on my carburetor right now so I can take here to the dyno man to get it tuned and running. Motor and tranny is the next big item I need as I need to drop that in the hole so I can get my measurements for the new wheels and tires.

For the past 4 weekends, I've installed the following:

1) Brake pedal assembly
2) Master Cylinder
3) Steering column
4) Wiring Harness
5) Dakota Digital Gauges
6) All new door hardware, vent windows and door glass
7) SS brake lines
8) Lower trim moldings
9) Custom 496 emblems

Coming up for the next few weekends, I've got all my parts waiting patiently in the garage to complete the following:

1) 496 motor and transmission
2) Willwood Big Brake Disc kit all the way around
3) All new LED lighting
4) Aluminum radiator and electric fans
5) Back glass and windshield
6) SS headers and SS exhaust piping
7) Steering Wheel

Only items I have left to buy are:

1) Fuel pump and lines
2) Wheels and Tires
3) Seats and door panels.

My goal is to get the girl ready to roll by end of the year!
