Just the tip...

Opinions on these 'Boom Tube Tips' by Dr. Gas? Currently I have the exhaust exiting under the truck, since I have no room to run it out the back as I had originally planned. I DO like the look of having the exhaust tip showing on trucks in general, and I DON'T like the drumming of turndowns or pipes exiting underneath the truck like it is now. Plus, it's getting my glossy powdercoated frame all sooty underneath. I'll probably have these ceramic coated black like the rest of the exhaust, if not just to 'hide' them a bit in plain sight.

Re: Just the tip...

I like em! I'm planning on doing the same with my truck. I used to sell the Dr.Gas exhaust products to the NASCAR teams here in Mooresville, NC. I've got a set of tubes left over from then. I think it'll add a unique touch! Go for it!

Looks good. What kind of drop do you have and did you move your rear axle to center it up?

2.5" CPP spindles (western chassis), 2" hotchkis springs (1500#/in) and a chubby big block up front. In the rear is a 6" Hotchkis spring and a 1.5" block.

Yes, I moved the axle up an inch or so using the Porterbuilt adjustable trailing arm crossmember, and I tightened up the gap from bed to cab when I bolted it down. I'm almost all the way at the front of the slots on the bed mounts, and I still had a another set of adjustment holes on the crossmember if I remember correctly. I can find pics if you'd like.

Thanks for all of the kind words. I just want to make sure my truck brethren approve before I fire the welder up!

I think they would look cool if you could incorporate them into the lip of the step somehow.

If I had known my original exhaust plan wasn't going to work (I should've measured more!) I almost definitely would've done it that way. Notch out the step lip, then conture the shape of the tip to take the place of what I cut out. But now, the paint and body is finished, and I can live with it hanging underneath.

I'm dogging it! I've actually considered something like that on my stepper when I have the exhaust redone.

No sir, but I do have a bunch of pics I posted up in my albums on my profile page. My build thread would have just been a long, miserable story of mistakes and money that I wasted putting this heap together!

Re: Just the tip...

I was looking for another option than what I have right now which is dumping under the truck. My ears start to hurt after a long drive. This is a nice option and the price isn't bad either. Thanks for sharing.

Did you get the "muffler style" tips or the straight through style?

These are just the tip only, without the muffler or baffling inside. I already have Borla XR-1's. To me, the muffler tips and full boom tubes are way too raspy and 'tinny' sounding. Don't get me wrong, these Borla's are loud as , but it's different from that tinny sound you get from some chambered style mufflers.

Yeah, I don't care as much for chambered mufflers as I used to.
