I have adjusted the pads all the way open and my brake drum wobbles but wont come free. I tried pryin on it and beaten on it with a hammer but no such luck. Eventually changing to disc but need these to last a little longer til i find a money tree. Any ideas

Re: drum brake problems

Try adjusting the brakes in instead of opening them up. I usually use a thin screwdriver to push on the adjuster while turning the gnurled knob.

Re: drum brake problems

back the adjust off as far as it will go. If that doesnt work theres probably a large lip on the drum meaning its worn out. If you back the adjuster all the way off and they still wont come off use a cut off wheel or grinder to take the heads off of the shoe spring pins that come through the backing plate. that should allow the shoes to move enough to get the drum off.

Good idea. And the brake spring kit contains the replacement parts.

^^ this ... also .... it is very common for the drum to become tight on the center hub from rust & dirt etc. A bit of PBlaster spray and some heat from a small hand torch (on the drum only) usually does the trick. Often times the drum will pop right off. Have run across this many many times.
