Exclamation 1971 rear e-brake parts help PLEASE!!

I've been lucky on this forum with getting lots of great info, but I don't know about this one.

I just bought new rear e-brake cables and went to put them in. I've been searching the forum (not to mention Google too) for the last two days trying to find good detail pics, only to realize that my project truck is missing all the e-brake parts inside the drums.

After searching much more, it looks like I need the parking brake lever (that the cable connects to), the pin and clip that hold that part in, the spreader bar (or strut) and the spring that goes on one end of that.

I can't find any links or information about where to buy this stuff. It seems like it's all dead-ends, when trying to get these types of parts?

I'm located in Massachusetts, so parts trucks aren't really available in junkyards around here, so that's not an option for me. Even if we did have them in the area, we're still buried under about 4 feet of snow here, so it still wouldn't work

I'm really hoping someone on here knows of a source where to buy these parts? They make everything else for our trucks, so they must make these parts too..................... right?

Your best bet would be to become a subscribing member and post a want to buy ad. Many guys here part out trucks and will most likely have what you need. Some of the parts you need are not available over the counter. You can get the parts from a junkyard from any truck up until 87 I believe, not just limited to 67-72 parts trucks.

Exactly. Members and Forum Vendors first.

I'm not a big proponent of buying LMC parts. But, to make myself feel better because
I use their book (along with my other references), I buy a little from them.

Here's a page from their catalog that's easily available with a few clicks- or less.

But, I ALWAYS go with Forum Members or Vendors first, ECE because I know them and they are local
(and national and international) supporters of our sport.

But that's just me.

Anyway, here's the drawing...if it helps...

Thanks for the pic, but that's what I was using for reference anyway. they do sell the "spreader bar", but that's it.

I would use a recommended vendor if anyone knew who had the parts.

So it's pretty certain that no one makes these parts that I need?

Thanks for the info anyway, I appreciate it

Most of the trucks being parted-out on the parts forum will have what you need. All you have to do is ask one of those guys.

Okay...I pulled all that stuff from the one (pass) side of my rear drum in anticipation of going to a disk/disk e-brake system.
So, I think I have all of the parts from one side that I could dig out.

However, I KNOW that the spring on my lever (#6), pictured in shadow next to #6 in the drawing, was broken. So, if you are
looking at pulling some parts together from different sources, let me know and I'll tell you EXACTLY what I have. If you do it that way,
the ones I have will be yours for the asking.

I dug through my stash and found this "strut". That's all.
You're welcome to it. But I don't think that would solve the problem.

No question that the best way to get this together is to wait out the weather and pull a couple of drums off a wreck. You have a wide range
of years that the stuff will work...You;'ll have to do the specific research on that...Easy enough to figure that out.

Here's an inexpensive set of springs that would help on the "replacing" of the parts you pull, if you chose to go that way.

http://tinyurl.com/mtlxpnu

Also, here is a pic from one of my service manuals. Pretty much the same general picture as we used before. I can't seem to find the internal
works on the rear drum in my assembly manual...But I can't seem to find *anything* in that when I need it.

As I said...I only have one strut. And, you're welcome to that if you need it. But, when you pull drums off of a wreck, each one will fall right out.

I'll keep looking on line for a kit. I may be wrong, but I think an all-inclusive kit with struts, springs, connectors, and parking brake levers might
not be out there. But there *are* MILLIONS of those parts out there for the picking.

Figure out the year spread, wait out the weather, and you'll have it licked.

Thanks Ben.

I opened this thread just as a way to try and get some info on how to find these parts, but EVERYONE in here has been more than helpful with everything

magwakeenercew2jh, thanks for the offer, but that is the one part that can still be bought. I appreciate it though

Snipescastle, if you can come through with the parts, I would be forever grateful and I would sure as hell pay it forward also, next time someone on here needs something that I have

Thanks again to everyone!!

I would love that. Thanks for the offer

Paying shipping would not be a problem for me. Usually I always take care of people with beer, so I would even include some extra dough so you could purchase yourself some of your favorite flavor

With everyone offering and being so kind, I just want to let them know that I have a 6 lug rear and I don't know if that would make a difference on the parts inside the drum? I doubt it would, but I just wanted to mention it

Thanks again!!!

Everything I have is 6 lug as well, can you receive sms messages on your phone? It would be a lot easier for me to just text pics instead of trying to upload etc...

oops... I meant to say I have a 5 lug... sorry about that

Right now I have no cell phone. I've been without one since Friday and I'm in a big battle with Sprint right now, so I don't know when I'll have it back

I feel so lost and alone without it. LOL!!

Re: 1971 rear e-brake parts help PLEASE!!

I finally located a possible parts donor rear end.

I am going to check it out on Monday, but the only problem is that it's a 6 lug and I have a 5 lug, so I don't know if the parts will fit my rear end

8 months trying to source these parts is crazy. I've never had this hard a time at finding anything I've ever needed for restoring a vehicle
