Yard art

My wife called and said grab a trailer, meet her at work. She got a KW hood. She wants to put a bench out front, bar-b-que at the back! I think it will turn out cool! I think a couple of wheels and a bumper will finish the look.

would be cool...isn't that fiberglass? ...if so I'd be careful about the heat from a grill..

Is it damaged? She must have gotten some kind of crazy bargain on that. Looks to be in great shape. It's cool yard art, but I would be expecting old KW guys, or other vintage truck nuts, to be trying to buy that. And it's worth some good money, too. Cool, but IMO, a waste of a good part. Kind of like using a rust free original 67 door as yard art to a vintage truck guy. There are antique truck fanatics out there same as Chevy pickup fanatics.

I get guy's every week banging on my garage door wanting to know if I want "those old scrap trucks hauled out of my driveway" ? Were talking about '67 short bed trucks under tarps ???

Thanks guys. She IS a keeper! I'm darn lucky. She saved it from being scrapped! Her boss had the guys pull it out of the blackberries and set it aside. The plan is to not cut on it or screw anything to it. I will weld up a simple framework (skid) so the hood will attach to the front pivot points, and the two rear guides that would line up with the cab. The fiberglass is in poor shape in spots, but we are going to save it. Headlamps will be working for sure. The bench will attach to the framework out front. The grill will be "floating" out back, not under the hood. I'm going to look for a couple of wheels and a bumper on the cheap. Will post pictures in the future.

Tim, I hear you! The glass is bad in some important spots. She could not let this nose be scrapped, as it is part of her companies history. That 900 but a lot of bread on peoples tables, money in their wallets. To see it in an end dump going to scrap, would have been wrong. All of us truck (big & small) lovers are saving bits of history. I sure hope grandkids & great grand kids will enjoy this stuff as we do now!

It's my kind of artwork for sure. And you certainly did find yourself a good one. I guess you already expect you will get folks wanting it. Just like with Grumpy's trucks under tarp, some people will see something sitting that they think shouldn't be and think that means you should want to let them decide what is best for it. It's find your own and do with it what you like. It will be the same front end needing 'glass work the day you decide (if) to get it out of the yard. It's cool to know there is connection to it, not just a big part. I have some old parts as yard art as well as old farm items displayed...repurposed. That sure was a pretty paint combo that truck had.

I'm in the two big national antique truck clubs, which is for all sizes but the place for large truck enthusiasts/hobbiests. That's why I say "They will be knocking". And, it reminded me of a club member who on his way to a show last September had his right front blow out on his way to the show. It busted the whole headlight area out on his restored truck. The talk is all about running the old tires and what can happen now. That was an expensive blow-out. I'm sure just the road service cost him a good bit.

Thanks! The Thanks! sign at the other end. Of course, they never pick up mowing for the rest of the bank anyway, so grown up like a SOB. But this fall they bots were doing a more thorough job. They stopped and we talked trucks (of course). Turns out the school bus drivers were complaining about the growth brushing the buses. Probably the bus owners. Anyway, I got them to gnaw it all down to dirt the while way down and to the top of the bank. I need to get out there and finish the job, rake out and dig roots, before growing season. This is the bank across the road I look at off my front porch. The lady across the road who's place it is loves it. Ijust dig stuff up from over here or buy plants on sale for cheap. I'll be moving the "Thanks!" shovel on down

I've got an old Model A tire with a thermometer in the middle hanging on a shed, and a sled you can't ride in the dirt hanging on a fence panel. Another panel has an old window frame with a planter.( without plants , just a solar lite.)

I like doing things with old window frames, inside and out. I had some from a chicken coupe that had fallen down saved. But, doggone if I didn't start working for a homeowner who wanted to close up a little out building that had the windows busted out and my sashes worked out for that. So, they are back to being windows in an old farm outbuilding for who knows how many more years
