Shortbed frame , 402 big block package

Frame has had all the hard work done. Engine has been totally rebuilt and is fresh. Correct turbo 400 has been cleaned and painted. Frame has the correct big block engine stands, brackets and springs. I have a fleetside bed that goes with it but it does have some rust . No title. I put this together with the idea of selling it to someone else to complete. Also I have the correct drive shaft on the way but have not received it yet. Of course I can't figure out why the pics are upside down, seems to be a common problem on the forum.

Wow that's a kick in the privates. I got 5600.00 into it so far. I have 2500 into the engine alone, not to mention the factory pulleys and brackets that are powder coated. It cost me a grand to get the frame without the spindles and rear end, then it all went down to bare metal and was refinished.

Re: Shortbed frame , 402 big block package

from your description i assumed no rear end or tranny internal work, no suspension or brake upgrades, no fuel or brake lines, etc. sounds like if you have that much invested there are more details you could add to your description that would up the price. also it's hard to put much value on a rusty bed with no pics. just my .02 hopefully others will chime in...

Re: Shortbed frame , 402 big block package

Rebuilt swb frame go for $1000-1500 usually unless airbagged or big money suspension kits. A rebuilt 402 can be $2-4000. So on the low end your at $3gs highend $5500 to the right buyer and get most your $ back which is rare. Box is $500 but to get the right buyer for top price you may need to include it. List at $5500 for package & see if you find a buyer. Be prepared to take $3-4000 though.

Personally I'd probably pay around $2500 max as it's just a cleaned up stock frame & stock 402. I sold a used rebuilt complete 402/400 carb to pan with accessories out of a '72 for $1200 with brackets and that was a hard sell lol Good condition rolling frames I'd sell for $500 complete. Rusty fleetside boxes $300-500. So that's $2200 for everything in good used condition running condition. The $ you spend after that making it look pretty and usable daily you may get back 40%.

Leaving you at the low end of $3000-3500 for the package.

How much is a totally restored swab big block worth? I might be able to have a professional body shop finish the body (I do have a clean cab) and make a show truck out of this. I seriously think this package it that nice.

Re: Shortbed frame , 402 big block package

Depends of how it's finished $15-30,000 since it's not an all original #'s SWB BBC. Prices vary pretty good. Paying a body shop to do all the work properly & show quality and put it together would be at min $15,000. By the time you're done you could easily be into it for $25,000+ & may only get that out of it if left all stock with no customization done.

If you can do it all yourself then you can make some decent $ off it.

You ask what its worth? Then complain when you get answers that you dont liike? What you have in a project is irrelevant. Dont ask questions if your not prepared for answers.

After reading my posts it does not sound like complaining, just asking for input and insight so I can either sell or continue work on it. Maybe I should of posted this in the general forum instead of the classifieds, for that I apoligize fine69.

Yeah-that was a little harsh. I did not see it as complaining either. It seemed more like shock. I guess that's why I never asked how much my truck is worth on here. I might get discouraged. Oh well back to work on my hobby. Waiting for the sun to come up so I can set the tub on the frame.

Re: Shortbed frame , 402 big block package

there is no doubt that you have more than $2500+ in replacement parts, around my area shops want $3k just to rebuild a big block. some of the issue is 'who' has performed this work. example: you might be a great painter but i am likely to pay more from a known painter than from you even though the quality of work is equal.

take all of the money you spent and divide it by 1/2 and that is likely what someone will want to pay you for it. while you will know it should be worth more, its harder to find that buyer that agrees with you. why is that? because as buyers we all want to buy something and get a great deal!

good luck with it, from the pics the job looks to be done well.
