It's already .20 under and would take it to about .60 to fix it . So no probably not. Not sure what I'm doing with it yet . Bob

Re: Project wild mouse

Got a line on a couple of cranks trying to decide what i'm going to do thinking about putting in a steel 283 crank and destroking it . If I could afford it I would buy a 6-71 blower and start over but it's not in the budget . In fact nothing is in my budget right now . But somehow I will get it back together and drive the hell out of it!!!!!!! Finally driving it after 4 years and then it being broken again is a major downer!! But I will win this battle !!!!! Bob

Re: Project wild mouse

keep at it man...theres no way to get it done other than that.

if you went with the 283 crank, it'd basically be like a DZ302, just not number matching..etc. right?

i don't supposed a 307 crank would suffice...?

Yeah similar . With my bore it would be more like approx. 306 No 307 cranks won't work for me . I will get it done again . It just sucks that my motor has approx . 3 miles on it when havoc struck !!!! Oh well I need to quit whining and fix it !!!! Bob

Re: Project wild mouse

Well I vote for the 283 crank !!!!

I plan to build a 302 one of these days & have some dirt track friends that have all kinds of lil tricks to make it BAD, so it should be a good engine when I get around to it

Re: Project wild mouse

this is my opinion and only my opinion.

the destroked engines do rap to the hilt but they work better in light vehicles that don't need much toque. most of our stock trucks weigh 3700 plus which is not light. 302 spin such high rpms that more expensive parts should be considered as far as weight and strength in the rods and piston end of things. put a 400 crank in it. i bet by just doing this and the right rods it will be like night and day compared to the original 327. course this is my opinion and i no its not old school.

Re: Project wild mouse

Good point, forgot about the weight

But all you gotta do the is run a high stall converter & it'd be ok (I think)

I just cant wait to see your truck buzz'n down the road !!!

Like the forged pistons and the h beam rods already in it . I don't want to run spacer bearings in my block for a 400 crank. i don't think I have ever heard of anyone putting a 400 crank in a 327 before might be interesting. I also have a 3500 stall in and I like rpms alot!! Haven't made my mind up yet It might just go back to the 331 config . that it was.

I also wouldn't consider a 69 camaro as a light weight which is where the 302was born . Just my thoughts.

Re: Project wild mouse

ya lol i have never herd it being done either. the 400 crank that is. lol. you would not need spacer you would just need to turn it down. 400 have the big mains. man if i had the money in the rods and the pistons already i would just replace the crank back to original. save you a lot of coin. unless you can come up with the crank and correct pistons cheap. the 283 cranks are not as strong as the small journal 327 forged cranks.

Re: Project wild mouse

Yup your right about the 400 I forgot it had the big mains . I don't know why i was thinking thick brgs. I don't know what I will do . Kinda freaked out because even though the bottom end was full of gas all the rod bearings are perfect and all the mains are junk . It all most acts like a line bore problem . But the old brgs were fine upon disassembly . I have to think about it for a while before I do anything with it . I still have another motor the origional large journal out of my truck . I also have a 70 350 with a real good bore . I will figure it out soon and get something going together. Bob
