S10 swap Budget 17"-20" Wheels - What should I look for?

I've seen threads on wheel size and backspacing for $2000 wheel sets. I've seem threads for finding some rusty old wheels to make a roller. I was wondering what people have found for budget conscious but nice look on craigslist/etc. Seems if I can find a stock set from a local, I can at least get a 30" tire to play with for a while.

My S10 chassis swap hubs are 5x4.75 bolt pattern. I've found that Corvette wheels are fairly inexpensive in the 18-20" range but no idea if they fit. What other vehicles fit for a budget conscious but nice look? What should we be looking for? Camaro, C1500, Jeep?

Summarizing the site findings for modern vehicles 5x4.75 / 5x120.7 bolt pattern. No idea on backspacing.

I think most modern wheels will have a positive offset which will just make it more difficult for you. Zero offset or negative is what you'd want. I'm running 18x8's with a 4.5 in. backspace (zero offset) and i have 1.5 inch spacers on the front. If I had a positive offset then I would have to have an even thicker spacer.

Also, what's budget minded, what are you willing to spend? Some aftermarket wheel's aren't too bad. If you're patient, I'd just keep an eye on CL.

Good question on budget. Wheels and tires for under $800 I'd consider a good budget, but people seem to get rid of them for under $500 quite often. I looked at mobsteel wheels and they are $2000 for the full set with tires, trim rings, etc. New Boss 338s are $1000 just for the wheels. I'm sure you can go much higher. For us budget builders, nice wheels are a big deal but may not be in the cards right away.

Some of the Corvette wheels seem to have the 4.5 backspacing you're talking about. I'm guessing anything will need some spacers for the wide fenders of a 3100. Like all things with this truck, it seems like everything cheap is cheap until it doesn't fit haha.

You can cut templates out of plywood and bolt them to your hubs, then get out the tape measure. From there, you can find your back spacing needs, and your max size up front for turning.
I haven't done it yet, but this is how I plan to size my wheels/tires.

Why not stick with an 18 like an American Torque thrust. A pretty well classic design in a larger size. Summit shows 18x8 for 182.97 each but I'd bet with some serious shopping you can beat that quite a bit. https://www.summitracing.com/search/...rust-ii-series
I've been going to rod runs wi th my own rig since 1973 and to car shows since I was 12 and the one continuing thing that kills the looks and whole vibe of a rig is the went cheap on the rims look.

17x8 would save you the price of 1 18 inch rim https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...7861/overview/ + That would be a great looking wheel that split the difference between traditional and cool hot lick new look. You would also save some serious bux on tires while getting good looking tires. My BMW daily beater has 17's that cost about 109 each while my Cad Dts has a some that run around 130 each. Even that size still rides rough though and you know where every tar strip on the road is. The only rig my wife doesn't complain about the ride and bumps in is my flatbed dualie that floats over bumps like you are sitting on a pillow.

I think 18"s look the best on a AD truck..i could go 20s if i had to...with that said I will be very limited to tire choices to run the height and width tire I want..nitto is the only one that makes what I want...hard to find a 28" tire in the 12-13" width on 18" wheels..for rears..

I know I am in the minority, but i don't understand the huge wheels on a vintage truck. look. What's wrong with a classic set of 15's? The size of the wheel openings on these trucks looks better with a smaller wheel in my opinion. The Torque Thrusts that MR48Chev talks about are a great looking classic wheel or cragars or rocket racing wheels ect..

My daily is a Dodge 1500 that came with factory 20s. I think it looks great because the wheels are proportional to the size of the truck and the fender openings. My 59 is alot smaller truck when compared to my Dodge.

My wheel notes seem to suggest a 30" tire is the way to go. Any reason you're looking at 28"? 12-13" is a fat rear end! lol

gigimax..I've done a bunch of measuring and to get the ride height I want 28" is about as tall as i can go..im not a big fan of rubberband tires on big wheels..i want to keep my sidewalls at least 5"...its hard finding a taller/wide tire..everything tends to be low profile and wide...and yeah..its gonna be "fat"...gotta try and tame a ls3/tr6060...but I havnt really looked at 30" tires so ill check into it and see..

I have no real world experience on tire size, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I have a note I keep about all the tire sizes people have talked about for the rides that I consider the perfect stance. Stance is an art though, everyone sees it differently and we all have the one that speaks to us.

Rear tire: 275 x 45 x 20 or 295/40/20 or 245/50/20 are in my notes. They are all 4.5 to 6" tire wall and around 30" diameter. https://tiresize.com/calculator/

I don't think there is a right and wrong. I've found "stance," which I'd consider a combination of tire, wheel, and suspension, is an art form. That means everyone has a different preference and the one that speaks to them. For me, I saw a set of 20s on a truck and knew instantly that was the perfect amount of wheel and tire for my truck. I've seen some 18s with white walls that look killer too.

Just found a set of 18x8 with 6" backspacing. Works great in the rear with the Ford 8.8. I have 2" spacers up front, wish I could run 3". The stock 14" wheels had 4" backspacing. When you go to 18", you can go up to about 5" before the front tire rubs the frame.

I got lucky. The tires and wheels I bought on CL ($350) were 255/45/18 Helo aftermarkets chrome with 12 yr. old tires, which made good rollers. The great thing is it had Chevy and Ford lug patterns. Score, I don't have to drill and relug my rear axles.

I'm thinking Riddler 645 wheels? Amateur question too...how do you get the front lip to be a different depth than the rear lip on the wheel? Is this why people order 18" in the front and 20" in the rear? Or is it offset?

I have Boss 338's on my '52 18x8 & 225/45/18 front and 20x10 & 255/35/20 on the rear (plan to go w/ a 275 one day) with 4x4 rear and 2" spacers up front. My '53 I am running Ridler 695's 18x9.5 front and 20x10 w/ 0 offset on the rear,tire sizes will be 255/45/18 and 275/35/20. Here they are just on the frame and I think I'm probably going to run 1.5 spacers all around. I've been meaning to see how they fit on my '52 just not got around to it yet. I added a picture of my '52.

I do believe your correct...primer truck appears to have ridler 645s...the outer lip you see is determined by how much backspacing the rim has
