73-87 Drop 73-87 spindles with stock steelies question, will they hit?

Anyone out there with stock steelies on their square bodies with 3" drop spindles.

I've heard that they can hit the control arms, but that it's not always the case.

I'd just like to figure this out before I got and drop her on Monday.
Last thing I want is for it to hit and not ride properly.

If they do hit, whats my next option? Cut the OG coils?

Sounds promising, thank you for the response. I'll post an updated pic, once I get her dropped

Here is my current truck. 3 inch drop spindles, one coil cut from stock spring and 6 inch wide steel stock wheels. No cutting, grinding, or rubbing.

Stock rally wheels will usually hit the lower control arm "gutter". You may have to trim it back about 3" and clearance the balljoint area a little. I think rallys have about 4" backspace. If I remember right the directions recommended 3.25 inches backspace or less

TexasFirefighter, looks great! I'm going with it, those are the same rims I have. How much is that lowered in the rear?

The back has a flip kit, so somewhere between 5-6 inches. I honestly didn't measure it.

From my experience, a 6" rim will clear just fine. A 7" rally (the ones that came on the vans) will clear the control arm but will knock the hammer-on wheel weights off, so you have to do a slight bit of grinding or run a 1/8" wheel spacer shim. An 8" rally will not work without a bunch of grinding.

I think a 6" wheel looks great on the front. I like the way TX Firefighter's truck looks. Nice and simple, with a little hot hod thrown in.

Re: 73-87 Drop 73-87 spindles with stock steelies question, will they hit?

We dropped my sons 85 SB 3" in the front and did the flip kit on the rear for about a 6" drop. We had to do just a little grinding on the lower control arms, the wheel touched on a real tight turn. Also, had to do a little grinding on the rear bump stop bracket. Here's a few pics of how it turned out...

Good Luck!
