Home made v8 engine storage stand?

Hey folks,

I need to build a home made engine stand for a 454 BBC as now I have 2 motors and only 1 stand! The new LS1 is going on my rolling stand, but I want to build something like this to store the BBC

Would anyone happen to have dimensions/CAD drawings of one they have built or one sitting around? My motor and access to welding equipment are about an hour apart and not available during the weekend.

Thank you!

Re: Home made v8 engine storage stand?

I am also awaiting a reply.

I am in the process of building an engine stand and this or something similar would fit nicely on top of the old zero turn mower frame I'm thinking of using.

Here's a pic of the frame. I have two no flat tires ordered for the front which are swivel mounted and I will install a small tow hitch in front for pulling it around. Probably will build a frame for the radiator and a small gas tank in front and the battery will be mount on the back where the motor used to be.

Great idea with the mower frame. Any mower frame would probably work as long as you can still articulate the front wheels for steering. And at first glance, it would look like some sort of V8 powered mower rig. LOL

Lol! That will be awesome. Please post pics!!

No word yet - I'll try to grab dimensions off my motor this weekend and draw the stand in CAD for you to use.

Yeah, if it works out okay, I may sandblast and paint it. The frame looks pretty solid. It's from an old Dixon. I figure with the heavy gauge deck which weighed a good 150 lbs., the 22 hp motor, another internal metal/cast iron frame they used for turning, battery, gas tank and extra stuff plus the 250 guy that used to drive it comes pretty close to the 550-575 lb weight of the engine.

I'll take some pics when I'm done. At the rate I work around here it may take a month.

Unless you're just bound and determined to build it yourself, Jegs has theirs on sale for $40.

If that is a sturdy one, it sure seems cheap enough.
