Any luck with 700r4?

Has anyone had good luck with a "built" 700r4 Trans in a mildly built 4x4? I have a 72 blazer with a mild 355/700r4/np205 35" tires with 4.56 gears and a stock converter. Everything is all fresh and I'm having nothing but problems. I'm running a summit 600 carb with the correct brackets and the tv cable has been set at wot. At first it was shifting up and down nice but as soon as you're in the shift it was like driving through a mud pit. So I put a little more pressure on the cable and it seemed a little better but it still short shifts, and downshift before passing was extremely inconsistent (rarely worked). On my way to a buddies to set my total timing and put a pressure gauge on the Trans it didn't want to let go of 3rd so I just took it home. Most of the problems are at part throttle driving. At wot from a stop the things a beast. Is it a matter of recalibrating the governor? I've heard people love them when they're built and tuned right.

I'm not expert, but I would look at the governor. TV cables have a lot to do with the operation of the 700. look at bowtie overdrives. they have really nice TV kits, and they offer great support. I'm sure they could help you out.

And it's important to know that the TV cable on the 700R4 isn't like the TH350, it's not just a kickdown. The setup is extremely important, because regulates a lot of the fluid pressures inside the transmission, clutch pressures, shift points, ALL of it. It needs the proper movement at ALL throttle positions, not just WOT.

That, and 700R4 (and 200-4R) are known for sticky TV valves.

I have a 700R4 in my Suburban. It's shifting great.
