1969 K5 questions

First off, Happy Thanksgiving! I just picked up another K5 yesterday, this time it's a complete and original 1969 K5. I have a couple '72's but this is the first '69. I noticed the interior of the hardtop is painted the body color, is that factory or did someone do that along the line. I also noticed the rear tailgate doesn't have the top strip on it for the hatch to rest agaisnt and I don't see evidence of there being holes for it. Did '69 not have the metal strip? I'm sure I'll have more questions along the way. Thanks

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Not sure about the metal strip, but I'm pretty sure the tops weren't body color.

You may have a truck gate. I ran into the same problem. Will just have to drill new holes for the tailgate strip.

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Never seen a top with body color inside. As to the tailgate, perhaps it has been replaced by one from a pickup.

I agree with the above. Got any pics of the new ride?

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Actually only 1969 has the body color matched interior. I have a brochure from 1970 thats shows one on the cover. I'm actually curious if some carried over to some early 70 models as mine was built in sept 1969,but the interior top is white and is original to the truck.

Re: 1969 K5 questions

I am wondering if that photo had some artistic retouches added possibly to the inside of the top and the grill when it was printed?

It's difficult to tell from looking at the brochure. The grille dashes and deluxe marker trim is highlighted though.

Re: 1969 K5 questions

I can post pics tomorrow, its rough but complete. Think the 69 will be mine and one of my 72s for my son.

The same with mine, no holes or strip... but it has one now.

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Is there a way to determine with what serial numbers the blazers started in '69? I just looked at my vin and it has the 4 in place of the 8 (5th digit I think) and the last six in the vin are 876838

Nice original 69, should be a fun project. Did the SPID list an inline 6

Re: 1969 K5 questions

I was surfing and found this on 69 Blazer Vin - have no idea if it is accurate but it would explain the 4 for body style instead of the 8 that is listed for 69-72 Blazers in most decoders. Does it work for yours?

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Yeah, but nobody has ever explained (that Ive found) as to why a 69 has different VINs (first year diff I suppose). It has a 307, I plan on using a 350 but plan on keeping the original engine.

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Yup, it worked for mine, minus the first letters. My VIN has CK for the first two letters instead of just a K. But that would make sense, is yours 14 or just 4?

Re: 1969 K5 questions

So, what are you going to do with the 69? How do you plan to build it

Re: 1969 K5 questions

Plan on going the original route. I like them the way they left the factory, bit I will probably use slightly larger tires, probably a set of 15x8 I have sitting around with the dog dish hubcaps. Or may use the original full hubcaps.
